2011 logistic challenges and opportunities are focused on US forces and methods to implement cost savings without lowering the service performance. In order to ensure that the delivery of equipment to field forces is not disrupted or delayed, creation of an effective weapons acquisition program is essential. The lifecycle of equipment is limited and it should be removed before it reaches the expiry date. The air force medical logistics are probing methods to ensure the protection of our forces and cost savings to the imposed budgets.

Best practices have to do with consolidating and improving supply chain management, with planning provisions to accommodate performance through a single point supporting the full range of military operations. Apart from the specialists on the subject, the air force medical logistics also includes material management for the detection of system preparedness and weapons expiration, and contractor support. Several aspects like unexpected operational duties, redundancies, supply rates control (by 34%) and environmental conditions are tracked through various systems. Better access to equipment (20%) and lower expense over operations and support (10%) are the primary targets for the current fiscal year.

Defense logistics have been assigned three main functions, planning for wide enterprise, material maintenance and distribution. With the help of successful strategies, centers can exercise control over operations as well as worker costs from a single location. The only way for supply chain management to meet the expected standards is by following all the business regulations, procedures, policies and best practices. Review of metrics and analyzed capabilities as explained by procedures allow the detection of enhancements in the operations. Effective management of change, implementation of risk lowering measures and integrated planning will result in modification of concepts based on changed requirements. Supply chain organizations are aiming for responsive upgrade in defense logistics by next year with the use of high tech technology. Defense logistics will be working from multiple support locations performing services with precision to align the entire air force medical logistics supply chain process.

Military operations need to adapt and use technology in order to respond effectively to the strategic risks. Stability plays an important role in ensuring premeditated response to sudden developments on part of the air force logistics. What makes military logistics and the timely supply of equipment a huge challenge is the global instability.
