Why is USB flash drives different from pen drives?
Are you tired of using the same old desig
USB flash drives? Now you can get custom shaped USB drives. A USB flash drive is used for data storage, and it has flash memory and an integral USB interface. Most USB drives are rewritable and removable. These are small in size, reliable, and durable. It has a larger storage space and works at a fast speed.
Flash and pen drive:
Most people think a pen drive and flash drive works the same way and has the same function. The reason is that all the pen drives are flash drives. It is important to consider that flash drives have extended usage capability than a pen drive.
Flash drive:
A flash drive is any data storage device with non-moveable parts. Before the invention of USB flash drives, people use CDs and floppy disks to store a small amount of data. When a user inserts a CD or disk into the computer, the computer reads the device by moveable parts such as laser scanning. With the advancement in technology and science, the developers created a flash drive that has non-moveable parts. Those features help to provide several advantages. Due to non-moveable parts, it is less prone to damage. Another benefit is that it has compatibility with various devices. And nowadays, all the windows and the operating system support it. You can transfer the data between both devices through a USB port or USB adapters. But, most computers and electronic media have a USB port that allows easy transfer. Apart from backup storage, these drives are also used to store information from the mobile media device, cellular phone, and video game consoles.
Pen drive:
As the name indicates, the pen drive looks like the shape of a pen. You can insert it directly into the USB port without a USB cord. It requires no cord, so you can attach it to a key chain or put it in the wallet or pocket. The pen indicates its size, as these are small and easily fit into the palm of your hand. It has the rectangular, flat, and similar shape of a highlighter pen. These are used to store data, and you can store data with a capacity range from 64 MB to 32 GB. It is a replacement for CD-ROMs or floppy disk and is rewritable and removable. Pen drives have a small printed circuit board. When a user connects the pen drive with the USB port, it activates. The USB port provides information to the computer and is compatible with almost any port on a computer.
Major difference:
The one major difference between both drives is that the pen drive is used as a mobile USB storage device, but the flash drive has different uses for data storage. The pen drive is plugin directly into the USB port, while the flash drive has a direct USB connection and corded USB connection. You can even store it inside the mobile media device or cell phone.
