With the subject of austerity hanging in the air of every single news report and interview with the bank manager, value for money is very much the subject with any company purchases at the present time. For the businesses that are investing funds, spending sensibly is the subject of the moment and everyone in control of making investment decisions is wanting to get a little more for their cash. In the executive environment all eyes are turning towards the summer and possible pay increases with the dawn of the new tax season. Managers will have significant judgements to make about how they reward their staff and who should benefit from pay rises, with many businesses being pressured into redundancies and pay freezes. So what does this mean for this years business gifts? Are rewards and incentives stopped this year as businesses cope with the aftermath of the economic downturn? Not necessarily. When trading conditions are difficult people don't just cease investing and in truth this will have a negative long term effect both to the business and the economy. What does arise is that businesses hold on to their money and make what they spend go further. Rather than placing a complete stop on purchasing, they are looking for more value for money and to view what they spend as an investment. This is why going high end with business gifts is an interesting prospect when businesses are trying to invest more wisely. Organizations still have to incentivise their employees and thank their customers and this is still an essential method of raising staff motivation and making your clients feel valued. At the lower end of the market, promotional products including plastic pens can be extremely cheap but highly disposable in nature as they do not have a high perceived value. In healthier financial periods, the temptation can be to get an item to everyone you possibly can, meaning a large number of less expensive gifts are utilized as corporate gifts. When times are tough it will be more tempting for companies to look to their staff and best customers when they are thinking about giving gifts, purchasing fewer in quantity as a result but looking more to quality. Premium business gifts that have a high perceived value will be seen more as a personal gift and be better received than their cheaper alternative, making any branding more effective and resulting in greater value for money. If a business gift is of high quality then it will stand out from others, awarding not only the gift but the branding on it increased prominence and greater visibility. The fact that it is also much less disposable in nature gives it a greater possibility of being utilized, let alone the beneficial effects it will have on the company who awarded it by the fact that it is a more executive object. The business gift that is given will inevitably reflect back on to the organization who awarded it. If the gift is cheap and tacky, what does that say about the organization who awarded it? Instead of ceasing purchasing altogether, businesses can spend more wisely in their advertising and staff incentives and create a positive image for both their brand and their long term prospects.
