Why should we recall the past?

From time to time we recall the series of special events that happened or ended a long time ago. We on an occasion, predominantly remember the sincere efforts that our ancestors made in the past. Why do we do so? Is it beneficial for us to remember the past? The past has passed so why should we recall it over and over again? Do the past thoughts never seem to part with the memories enshrined in our mind? Or do they keep bothering us all the time? No, it isn’t so, but the past is always embedded in the present and the present leads us to the future. If we intend to get over the past, we’ll never do. By the time I write this, the time I started to write is also past…!! Impossible, isn’t it? Since we are unable to get over it, we must keep it in front of us before taking any steps in the present for making our future bright, because headway may be perfectly made only with the help of earlier memories and the thoughts of the past. It is obvious that the earlier memories keep on reminding us of things and events happened in times gone by, moreover they do act as sentinel of the castle built by our ancestors. It is not that they are always painful. Sometimes, they remind us of our glorious past while at times, they remind us of experiences not so sweet. Yet, such experiences are essential for us to take lesson for forward movement or progress in right direction. The deeds of our ancestors inspire us to rise above all considerations and proceed in the right direction. There are times when we confront situations where we have to take shelter in the domain of the past. It would be difficult to say that the past is altogether irrelevant. It has its relevance. The past is not past. The memories of the bygone days keep on traveling with us. The pages of history contain authentic accounts of the past. It is not without purpose that history is prescribed as a subject in school and colleges. At times, we are so bogged down with the past happenings that we decide to drop the work in hand. It shows that the past has not passed yet. It is in fornt of us. It is the foundation of our present. If we only keep it before us, it will help make our present right and future bright. Even in our practical life, we see people making a remarkable headway because of the work done by them in the past. The work done by great men keeps inspiring the present generation to do great things. Great deeds of the past speak of the tremendous efforts made by someone to give us our present. It is a sort of support system for the present. It allows us to live peacefully in the present. We are leading a comfortable life today because someone in the past did his work sincerely.
