Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted infection that is more likely to strike people having multiple sexual partners. It is estimated that close to 90 million people in the world today suffer from the infection but many of them are unaware of it simply because the symptoms of Chlamydia don’t exhibit themselves in a majority of the population. In women, it leads to pelvic inflammatory disease which is basically the infection of the uterus lining, fallopian tubes or ovaries. Females infected with Chlamydia also have a very high likelihood of contracting HIV in comparison to the ones unaffected by it. On the other hand, in men, Chlamydia can spread to the epididymis (the tube carrying sperms to the testes) causing it to get infected with the eventuality being sterility. It can also lead to pain, fever and inflammation of the eyes.
It is estimated that only 20-30% of men and women exhibit symptoms of Chlamydia which is all the more reason why one should be all the more careful, especially if one is leading an active sexual life. Here are the symptoms that men should be vary off – A burning sensation or pain during urination, discharge from the genital organs, inflammation or infection of a duct in the testicles and tenderness or sharp shooting pain in the testicles. Just like men, women too may experience pain while urinating and may have also find intercourse a very painful procedure. Discharge from the genital parts and liver inflammation are the other symptoms of Chlamydia exhibited in women.
If you are one of those leading an active sexual life and see the occurrence of any such events, do not procrastinate and visit a health practitioner at the earliest. Azithromycin and doxycycline tablets are medications recommended by most doctors and usually only one course of antibiotics is required to cure the disease if the infection is in the early stages.
