The first reason that The Hunger Games is an awesome move is that it is based on an awesome book. The Hunger games series is a young adult series that is about a futuristic dystopian United States society where the government, known as the Capitol, rules 12 districts of citizens with an iron fist. To commemorate the Capitol’s victory over the 12 districts in an uprising, the Capitol hold the Hunger Games each year. The hunger games involves one girl and one boy from each of the 12 districts being forced to compete in combat to the death with the other boys and girls. This battle takes place in a purpose build arena and is broadcast to all citizens on television. The mix of a totalitarian government, an enslaved populace, and children in gladiatorial combat make this a great book and a great movie as well. The second reason that The Hunger Games is a great movie is that the director and the scriptwriters stayed very close to the story in the book. The movie is very faithful to the plot lines and character interactions that take place in the book. Very little is left out of the movie that took place in the book. The things that were left out were done so to save time and make sure that the movie was not four hours long. Other things that were left out were not that integral to the plot so they were not missed all that much. Most of the book covers the time in the arena when the children are fighting to the death. The movie covers most of that action and does so in a gritty and realistic way that makes you feel like you are part of the action.
