You wouldn’t usually consider a building site to be a place that needs much protection. They are not particularly attractive places to be and it is not as though there is a great deal to do there. Leave a building site completely unprotected however and you could arrive to work at the site in the morning to find something really quite bad has happened while you have been away. With this in mind it is always best to provide security to prevent unwanted people from gaining entry to a building site once everybody has gone home for the day. When considering providing security for a building site when it is not being used there are some events in particular that you should be trying to provide protection from.

Accidents

No matter how good their intentions are, a non-authorised person on your building site could be posing a great deal of danger to themselves. People may choose to enter a building site to take a shortcut or young people may use it as a place to hide away with friends. However, no matter what the reason is for them coming onto site, they could all be at very serious risk. Heavy objects falling from above and sharp instruments can cause serious injuries and even authorised personnel must be well-protected at all times. It is imperative that you keep unauthorised people out of the site to ensure that no nasty accidents can happen.

Theft

Materials like brick and cement may not be expensive but some materials can cost quite a lot. Copper theft is quite common on building sites as the metal is used in plumbing and can fetch quite a good price. If thieves know what they are doing and are well-organised they could potentially get away with a large amount of expensive building materials, which could help to send your costs spiralling. To prevent copper theft and the theft of other valuable materials, it may be worth considering getting suitable security systems for your site.

Vandalism

Some people take a great deal of satisfaction in destroying other people’s property and the damage they can cause can be immense. On a building site, structures may be severely damaged and tools broken whilst there is also the potential for damage to vehicles and other facilities to be done. If a structure was in the process of being built and is then destroyed it would have to be rebuilt again which could be very expensive in terms of man-hours. Some building materials and equipment is also quite costly, meaning that budgets could be severely affected if they need replacing. Investing in some security for your building site could help to save you a lot of money in the long run by helping to prevent vandalism.

Any building site is at risk from events such as copper theft so investing in a suitable security system would be a very prudent thing to do.
