Why You and Your Car Both Benefit When You Walk to Work
Commuting to work every day can be an incredibly stressful experience. Traffic can be crowded and finding a parking spot can be a nightmare. Remove some of this stress in your weekly work life by opting to walk to work instead. Here are a few of the benefits you will enjoy when you decide to walk to work.
You Save Money
Cars are expensive. This is a concept that you don’t quite grasp until you own one. Cars require a lot of gas to drive you back and forth from work. When you decide to walk to work, you’re taking one less trip on the gas in your car’s gas tank. This will save you several dollars in gas money per walking day.
Your Car Saves Battery Life
Even if your car runs on gas, it still needs a battery to power all of the electronic aspects. Your engine can’t even turn over if there’s no power in your battery. Deciding to walk to work a day or two out of the week will prolong the life of your car battery by reducing the amount of normal wear and tear on the battery’s cables and terminals. The longer your car battery lasts, the more money you’ll save from not having to buy a new one. Even though batteries can be recharged, this still costs time and sometimes money, so it’s worth going on foot when you can.
You Burn Extra Calories
Walking is an incredibly healthy form of exercise. It strengthens your body, which is very important for your health and longevity. If you’ve packed on a few extra pounds that you’d like to lose, you can take your first steps towards losing weight by deciding to walk to work a few days a week. If your body isn’t used to regular exercise, you might find it easier to start walking to work one day a week then gradually increasing the frequency as your body becomes stronger.
Your Car Sits Safely at Home
Although you drive safely, other drivers on the road don’t always practice the same courtesy. Keeping your car at home will reduce its chances of being in an accident. It will also spare the tires and engine system the wear and tear of being used, so the life of your car, technically, will be extended each time you keep it at home.
Don’t forget to dress for the walk to work. You don’t want to take a long walk in heels or dress shoes only to develop blisters on your feet.Further reading
