Hiring a marketing consultant for a small business isnt necessarily about the difference between achieving business goals and not achieving them. Using a small business marketing consultant is just about getting you where you want to be faster. Take a moment now to think about where you want your business to be in 3 months time, and then in 6 months. Now you have to ask yourself what it will mean to your business if you dont achieve that. What lost opportunities and revenue will you suffer? No matter how great you are at what you do, it is impossible to be an expert on everything, yet that is precisely what is expected of a small business owner. What parts of your business do you get outside help with? In a larger company there is probably a whole department dedicated to each one of these roles. You get to do them all and still have to go out and find new customers. Its a strange fact that selling your business is often one of the first things that gets put off until later. A marketing agency can make sure that you never forget to keep looking for new customers. Without customers to pay the bills then you really dont have a business after all. This exercise is about development. You wont lose control of your business by allowing the consultant to be creative. No marketing expert is going to try and drag you kicking and screaming in a direction that you dont want to go in. Results come when business owners and marketing experts work together to find solutions that fit with your business but are still new and innovative. Most companies that take on a marketing consultant never look back. You will see the results if you are willing to take the initial leap and let an outside expert into your business. Dont be one of those business owners who forget to sell their business, you could all too easily find yourself another statistic when the orders stop rolling in.
