Essentially, there are 2 types of membership websites. There are free websites and there are paid sites. These two kinds of membership websites have one thing in common. Their memberships are composed of people who have a common interest or share a common need.
Even without paying for a membership, one can still buy a domain, put up a website and still be able to select who to admit and not.The profit will come eventually from sales to members after they have joined. Free network websites are made available to anyone for whatever purpose they may want to use it. MSN and Yahoo groups are two examples of membership websites that are accessible for free. There is no charge at all for anyone to join and it costs nothing to build these sites. Paid administrator or moderators are also not required from these sites.
Each site sets its own rules on how to join and the code of conduct for the website. The website subjects are many and diverse. There are loads of “support” sites for people with health problems or conce
s and for individuals who have grieved the loss of loved ones. Sites for those people who are into crafts like woodworking and quilting are also presented.
For those who like traveling, there are also sites offered for them. There are websites for various age groups from teens to seniors.
There are software available for chatting and space for posting photos, document and links for every member of the site. The free websites do not have such things as access to specialized data like music lessons as well as lists.
Paid for membership sites are built by organizations or individuals with the aim of making money by giving difficult to find information, access to specialized data or lists, or instruction in a variety of fields. Membership sites are owned and operated by individuals who either own the websites or who are hired by the site owners to check and manage them. Not like in the free membership sites, the subjects are more diverse and more specialized in websites with paid membership.
