Will Mac's and PC's ever be compatible?
There is one truth to the computer world, and that is there are two kinds of computers. There are Macs and there are PCs, and it has always been that way. Will it always be the same? *What Does Compatible Mean? In many ways, Macs and PCs are already compatible. Wireless routers, for example, work for both systems. Peripherals are interchangeable. Most printer and camera manufacturers want you to be able to use your device on whatever system you may own, so they work for both Mac and PC. Microsoft Word is available for Apple, as are most important programs. . *Why PCs and Mac are different There are important core differences between the two systems that will probably never change. There are vastly more PCs in the world than Macs. PCs are manufactured by thousands of different companies, assembled in millions of different ways. Apple, on the other hand, controls every step of their process. They also make very good computers. Though a trip through the store may convince you that Macs are expensive, that is only because Macs are not cheap. Cheap computers are all PCs. But when you try to find a Windows machine that does what a Mac does, you will quickly see that they cost more than a Mac for less computer. Apple made their reputation selling computers to high-end computer professionals and to wealthy customers who like to have more features than they will ever use. Their operating systems reflect that philosophy. *Universal Computing and Exclusive Computing. Windows programs enjoy a high degree of universality. Almost every system can run almost any program. However, the quality control varies dramatically. Apple products have rigorous quality standards. They make specific programs for their specific systems. As Windows innovates and assimilates, Apple takes only the best and adds it to their core system. *Over compatibility One way in which it is a very good thing that Macs and PCs are incompatible is virus protection and security. Virtually every virus out there affects PC computers and not Macs. This is because Apple controls their devices closely, and maintain a central computer security department. PCs have no such advantage. However, both systems are equally vulnerable to the new varieties of social networking viruses. *Will They Ever Be Compatible? As we have shown, in some ways, they already are. In some ways, it is better that they are not. In the broadest sense, one could say that Windows will always be one step ahead, but Apple will always have the strongest footing. They will never be perfectly compatible, because PCs will evolve and Apple will change policy, but their interaction will continue bring great computing to the people.
