William Henry Harrison

William Henry Harrison ( 9 of February of 1773 - 4 of April of 1841 ) was a political and military American , who served as 9th President of the United States (1841), being the first to die in office. Harrison gained national fame by leading American forces against Native Americans at the Battle of Tippecanoe in 1811, 1 after which he earned the nickname "Tippecanoe" (or "Old Tippecanoe"). As a general in the war of 1812 , his most notable contribution was the victory at the Battle of the Thamesin 1813, which ended hostilities in the region.rnAfter the war, Harrison moved to Ohio, where he was elected in 1816 as a representative to the chamber and in 1824 as a senator. After serving a truncated term in the Senate, he was appointed Plenipotentiary Minister for Gran Colombia in May 1828. Shortly thereafter, Harrison returned to his farm in Ohio where he lived in retirement until his presidential nomination in 1836.
