Windows 8 is a latest user interface in the world of computer’s. Windows 8 bundled with lots of beneficial features for the user which are still unnoticed. In this article I will focus on one of the important feature “HomeGroup”. This feature was also present in Window 7 but most of the people don’t have enough information about it. HomeGroup allow user to make a small group of computers, through which members can share Documents, videos, music files. The HomeGroup members even have privileges to share hardware like Printer, Scanner as well as share internet connection and play multiuser games. In this article I will let you know about the importance of HomeGroup, the steps which you should follow to create, join and access the shared files.
The HomeGroup offers lots of beneficial Features for the user:
• Security: HomeGroup provide reliable sharing of data. For accessing HomeGrouplibrary a password is provided which ensure proper security.
• You can create restriction on the members of HomeGroup by making all the documents in Read only state.
How to make a HomeGroup:
• Click Start button, open Control Panel and in search bar type “HomeGroup”, then click on HomeGroup.
• Now click on “Create a HomeGroup” and then follow instructions appeared in HomeGroup wizard.
• In HomeGroup wizard you have an option to allow members to access the available resources. You can choose betwee
Documents, Picture, Printer, Music, Videos for which you want other member to access.
• If you choose to share Printer between the members of HomeGroup then you will get a password which a HomeGroup member must use for accessing the printer.
• Now your HomeGroup is created and Your Music, Pictures, Video, Printers folders are ready to be shared with other members of HomeGroup when they joi
Homegroup. These folders – Music, Videos, Printers, and Pictures are called as Libraries in Windows 8.
How to Connect your Computer to HomeGroup:
• Click Start button, open Control Panel and in search bar type “HomeGroup”, then click on HomeGroup.
• Click on Join now, and then you have to enter the Password for joining HomeGroup.
• You have an option to select the folders available in the libraries which you want to share.
• Click on Join Now to complete the HomeGroup Wizard.
How to Access Shared Files from HomeGroup:
The computers which are member of HomeGroup will appear in Windows Explorer. To access the shared files you have to follow the Following steps:
• Click on the Start button and then click on your User name.
• In the navigation pane (the left pane), under HomeGroup click the user account name of the person whose files you want to access.
• A list will appear, and then double click the library you want to access, and then double-click the file or folder you want to access.
