I love playing pool with my sons. They are very competitive and they love the challenge of playing me. And I just hate myself when I win. I’ve told them that it’s best if I don’t let them win because it will make them more determined to beat me and in turn they will be more accomplished players. But deep down, I like to see the boys winning.

Do you always need to win? What does winning mean for you? Does it mean being right all the time? Does it mean having the last word? Does it mean winning at the expense of your ‘self’? Is winning at all costs, winning?

Sometimes, just sometimes you understand, I make the odd mistake and lose a game or two against the boys. And when I shake their hands and see the twinkle in their eyes and the smiles on their faces, I know that I’ve lost the game but won the title: Dad.
Don’t lose out.
