Dental fraternity deals with numerous problems almost everyday. Most of these problems are sometimes so common that they occur in a majority of individuals all across the world. Wisdom tooth is one problem that has a worldwide occurrence and needs a dental intervention to cure that. The occurrence of wisdom tooth occurs majorly in the age group of 16-25 and needs to be cured at an early age to avoid any complications at the later stage. Most importantly there may be other complications that may crop up due to wisdom tooth thus it is highly recommended by dentists all across the world to get it removed at the earliest. There are many people who are lucky enough and they don’t get wisdom teeth at all in their lives.

Wisdom teeth cause inflammation, infection and pain that cause discomfort in the patient. The wisdom tooth are generally misaligned and will push the other teeth thus causing them to be misaligned in the oral cavity thus it becomes quite necessary for people to get them removed else all teeth will give a haphazard look. These wisdom teeth are generally known as third molars as they erupt behind the second molars. Typically the jaw is not big enough to accommodate these third molars.

In many cases the wisdom teeth don’t come out fully, they emerge only partially. Only one portion of the teeth may extend beyond the gum line. The other portion stays under the gum line, forming a flap over it. Food particles may get trapped in the flap and lead to bacterial infections. Pain may also be experienced during biting in such cases. The only permanent solution in these cases is to surgically remove the wisdom teeth under question. Many dentists will tend to remove the flaps off those teeth which is not recommended at all as the wisdom teeth will push the other teeth along the jaw line.

Wisdom tooth removal is always performed under anesthesia. Some may use local anesthesia and some may use local anesthesia. The preference of anesthesia depends upon the condition and the extent of impaction. After administering the anesthesia the dentist will expose the impacted tooth by cutting into the gum line and then pull out the teeth. Stitches are thereafter applied so that the wound is healed speedily. Antibiotics and painkillers then administered to suppress the pain and keep infection at bay.

One thing that needs a mention over here is that people think that brushing and flossing will keep infection and discomfort at bay while wisdom teeth are on their way out. But brushing and flossing are processes that will take out the debris from the teeth and will not stop the teeth from erupting out of the gums. Thus surgery is the only option.

One should not be scared of the surgery as during pulling out of the teeth no pain occurs. Post operation you need to have a complete course of the antibiotics. This is quite important as there are ample of chances for an infection after a surgery. Don’t be scared of going to a dentist just because you think that it’s going to hurt.
