If there is one thing that all new parents have in common, it is a lack of sleep, and a lack of time. Especially for a first baby, the change in lifestyle when Junior comes along is something that is very difficult to prepare for. Midnight feedings, work schedules, walking the dog—and a new workout to get back into shape. How is it even possible to accomplish it all?
Don’t panic. With a little planning and creative use of time, it is possible to fit everything you need to do into a single day.

Nap Time

For the first few weeks, it is probably wise to use nap time for napping. When your new baby sleeps, you sleep. After the six weeks recovery time and the all clear from your doctor however, you can begin a regime of flexible workouts while Junior is sleeping during the day. A simple 20 minute cardio workout a few times each week is a great way to start. If you dedicate yourself to getting started as soon as naptime begins, you may find that you have time left over to straighten the house or take a shower before Mommy duties begin again.

Family Time

If you and your partner enjoyed jogging or working out together prior to your new addition, there is no reason why you can’t incorporate baby into the daily grind. Traditional strollers are not compatible with jogging or running, however a stroller designed specifically for running is worthwhile investment right from the beginning. You and your partner can take turns pushing the strolling as you delve back into your evening run routine, and baby will enjoy the fresh air and the smooth ride through the park each day.

Gym Time

If you’ve always been a member of an organized, professional gym, you may consider finding out if they offer sitting services. If your gym doesn’t, you can offer to start a “Mom” club if others are looking for the same service. This type of club can be located on site, where Mom’s can bring young children to the gym during the day. A few moms watch all of the children while others workout. After the first hour, it’s time to switch. All of the moms get their daily workout and each one is involved in the free sitting. Many clubs, however, do offer daycare facilities. If there is little interest in providing this service in your gym, it should be too difficult to find a facility that offers all inclusive babysitting while you work out.

Baby Gym Time

Another option to consider when finding time for your workout is to include the entire family. Your baby needs exercise, too, so why not spend an hour or so each evening on the kids’ workout. This can be accomplished at home by playing music and encouraging all of your little ones to dance and just move, however they feel like. For very young babies, encouraging them to reach for toys or your fingers is a great way to start. Another option is to take part in a program designed for mothers, fathers, and new babies to encourage family activities that will create good health habits for everyone.

Movement is one of the most honest forms of self-connection. The body never lies. It holds stress, records emotion, and reveals when something feels off. For many, this is why exercise has always been more than fitness; it’s therapy through motion. But not all movement heals. Some styles exhaust, others distract. True healing often begins in the slow, intentional kind, the kind that lets the body lead and the mind follow.rnThat’s where precision-based training, such as re
