Write It On Your Heart

"Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
This is not news when I say that weddings have become outlandishly expensive, extravagant productions. If you're a bride-to-be, and no matter what wedding industry hype says, your wedding day is not the most important day of your life. This notion is a set-up for disappointment and for pushing you to your wits' end. Paraphrasing the Ralph Waldo Emerson quote: Write it on your heart that every day is the best day of your life. Then keep the promise you've made to your heart!

Don't be an easy mark for the sales pitch du jour in our commercial, celebrity-driven pop culture that can knock you off center. It's easy to get carried away and lost in the frenzy and "trimmings" of your wedding -- or in the bustle and noise of everyday life.

Whatever you've scripted on your heart...

  • I want to be a beautiful bride. - I want to have a memorable wedding. - I want to be in love forever. - I want to have a happy and healthy family. - I want a fulfilling career.

...then I'd suggest that you take deeper breaths, smile from your heart, and move slowly whenever possible. This way you're not so apt to lose yourself -- or your wits -- or your heart-connection to others.

Whether you're a bride-to-be or just a busy woman-on-the-move, put your attention on the direction you want your life to go in (instead of just accepting the default setting!) and move there with more ease.

Put attention on what lights you up, not what you think is expected of you. Then you -- and what you write on your heart -- can indeed claim this day, this moment, as the "best."
