Case study writing is akin to the formulation of a solution to a problem because it involves tackling problems which may have multifaceted challenges and thus difficult to solve. Therefore, most case study writing cases are supposed to come up with solutions that either out rightly offer solutions to a problem or problems or offer alternatives that can be applied to the solution. Case study writing is used both in languages and technical subjects as an assessment tool. In the language sector, case study writing may be used to test the ability of students or groups of students to express them argumentatively in a constructive manner that can enable people to easily understand them as they express their ideas. On the other hand, in the technical fields of study case study writing is used to help students develop their problem solving capability either in groups or as individuals. The fact that these studies are challenging requires case study writing to be keenly done in order to show how they approach and present their argument as they analyze and solve the problems in any case study-most of which are technical, multifaceted and complicated in nature.
The first feature of a case study is the description of the problem under highlight in a detailed manner so that the readership may be able to understand what you are dealing with in the specific case study writing exercise. A well expounded explanation aids the writer as well as the reader to clearly understand what the problem entails. The explanation of the problem also helps the writer to visualize the problem and the facets of the problem as well as how to approach the problem. Case study writing that involves a business problem should have a backward and forward analysis of the company under highlight.
After clearly expounding the problem, the case study writing should then explore the problem analytically by first seeking the immediate causes of what is empirically observable. Thereafter, the causative agents of the problems should be analyzed and a further analysis to establish the root cause of these problems should be explored. After completely understanding the causes of the problem, the writer should go about seeking the solutions to these problems.
The next step in case study writing should include the justification of the problems and analysis of the problems in relation to their causes and the formulated solutions. The analysis within the case study writing should be free from bias and the writer should try as much as possible to avoid the expression of any personal sentiments. The evaluations of case study writing should not let personal opinions and issues to cloud the judgment that is passed in the argument. Rather, it should be idea driven and based on solid principles and observations. A bigger part of the last sections in case study writing should be dedicated to more of analytical work rather than descriptive work, because this is the point where the writer expresses why various options of solutions have been selected and why they may work positively. This part of case study writing should be convincing so as to gain acceptance from any stakeholders that may have commissioned the case study by showing how valuable the presented solutions may be. Therefore, this is the most important part of case study writing.
