In the 16th century, pirates roamed the open seas. They were the terror of outlying towns, sailing merchant ships and passing Spanish galleons laden with gold. A pirate’s life was a tough life, an adventurous life, a life spent rolling on the waves, looting passing ships, pillaging towns, robbing the rich, dueling with cutlasses (not to forget pistols, axes, anything that came to hand), abducting rich folks and feuding with the authorities. In this swashbuckling era, folks fed up with the law, their living conditions, boring lifestyles took to the seas and piracy. This is attested from the fact that the pirates of those days were not just poor sailors but adventures, educated rich men and even nobles. rnPirates lived by their own rules, their own moral codes and their own ethics. They lived in a world of their own. Their lifestyle and dress code was not very different from what centuries later the world would catch a glimpse of in movies such as the Pirates of the Caribbean and read about in fabled books such as the Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. rnWho can forget the famous Jack Sparrow in search of the Black Pearl in Pirates of the Caribbean? Or more famously his predecessor the shrewd Long John Silver? The captain of the pirate gang who limped around on one wooden leg with a parrot perched on his shoulder. rnTreasure Island was a book that shed light on the life of pirates. The book is also famous for the song sung by silver’s fellow pirate mates sitting idle disguised as sailors and one which school boys from Britain to India had to memorize by heart not long ago: The lyrics of the song went as follows: “Fifteen men on the dead man's chest, Yo-ho-ho, and a bottle of rum! Drink and the devil had done for the rest, Yo-ho-ho, and a bottle of rum” rnSilver’s character was based on a notorious pirate whose name was Black Beard. A shrewd gentleman feared not for bloodlust, cruelty, torture or violence but for exceptional talent in filling the minds of his opponents with fear. rnThe pirate age was an adventurous age. A free age. A romantic age. While some of our readers must be thinking what a gruesome time it was, others like us (the few, the bold and the adventurous) must be sighing in despair that today the world lacks that kind of adventure. rnWe totally agree with them. Look at our civilized times. We do everything by the book. We live by rules and regulations. In fact we wouldn’t be surprised if one day we gave up all our vices for good as well. Including robbing banks, staging heists etc. This would also mean we would then not even stoop even a little bit to pocket someone else’s Synergy Card. Even if we were perfectly aware that Synergy Card (today’s India’s No.1 but perhaps tomorrow the world’s) is a great discount card to have in our pocket for not just those juicy mouth watering discounts and royal privileges that we enjoy at high end places (yes, yes, bars, restaurants, pubs, health clinics, cinema halls, lifestyle brands etc) but also for the fact that a synergy card saves us a great deal of money whether we are engaged in splurging online shopping card for unbeatable discounts, shopping for the best gifts India has to offer or whether we are looking to buy our favorite box of Chocó chips online ( naturally after a good session of price comparison) using this marvelous discount card. rnWell we don’t know about you lot! But we definitely would not wait to see that day. Come on! Who on earth would give up the opportunity to pocket a Synergy Card free of cost after being aware of its benefits. Black Beard wouldn’t, now would he? Synergy: It’s your Power to enjoy life now!
