Whatever the reason, this can be a very stressful and depressing situation. But it doesn’t have to be like this. You have some options.

Many experts advise you to pay down your debt. It’s easy to say if you are making lots of money but many people are living paycheck-to-paycheck. Hey are on the very edge of financial doom. They are just one month away from the poorhouse. So what can you do about this worrisome situation?

The first thing that you can do is look carefully at your expenses. Many people spend every penny that they bring home each month. In fact, research indicates that most people spend about 10% more than they make. In order to get your financial life in order, you’ve got to change this situation.

Of course you’ve got to pay down your debt, but before you do this, you will need to slash your expenses. Only by aggressively slashing your expenses can you get your spending down to a manageable level. This reduced spending will put extra money in your pocket. And you can use this extra money to relieve your financial burden.

If you think that you are living on a tight budget already, you are probably wrong. In my 22 years of financial experience, most people spend about 20% more money than they think. They forget about that coffee and bagel they get each morning. They don’t include that soda each afte
oon. These may seem like trivial expenses, but over time, they really add up.
