How you define “having it all” depends on your priorities, but typically people want accomplishments such as these:

  • The perfect spouse
  • 2.5 wonderful children
  • A beautiful home and yard
  • A wonderful, fulfilling career
  • A sincere and committed faith
  • An incredible marriage

Sally Krawcheck, former head of Citicorp who was dubbed by Fortune magazine as one of the most powerful women on Wall Street, put it this way: “You can have it all … you just can’t have it all at the same time.”

In the improvement of marriages, I am a big fan of marriage seminars because they provide a structured yet loving and comfortable atmosphere for working on marriage problems that couples may have difficulty addressing without some assistance.
Attending a weekend marriage retreat, may enable you to structure your couple communication in a way that will help you to accomplish whatever goals you define as "having it all". If you are willing to work on your marriage by attending or organizing your own couple retreat, want to renew your relationship with your spouse, handle the issues that come up in marriage and life and plan together for the future, a marriage seminar can give a kick start to your better relationship. By sticking with a structure to resolve problems without rancor, couples who learn techniques at marriage seminars are better able to improve their marriages. Bottom line-- you can insure that all areas of your life get addressed on a regular basis – just not all at the same time.

If you and your spouse work together to build your marriage, your lives also tend to fall into place; because let’s face it—most life problems are really marriage problems. Going on an annual couple retreat, conducting quarterly couple reviews, observing weekly “walk talks,” and expressing love daily are some of the tools I believe can create strength in your marriage. Find and attend a marriage retreat where such aids to communication are advocated and modeled. The end result will be better communication and a closer couple—perfect ingredients for a better marriage and a better life.
