Passion is an intense, driving, or overmastering feeling or conviction. It can be fear-based, as in anger. Or love-based as with intensely positive feelings. The greatest joy and happiness you will ever experience occurs when you are passionate about your work and the life you are living.
A person working in their area of passion is completely absorbed by it. Time flies by quickly and there is great satisfaction in the work itself and one's accomplishments.
The passionate person wakes up energetically, looking forward to the day's tasks. They go to bed with a feeling of having made a difference in the world. Passionate people love the work they do and wouldn't change for all the money in the world. You see, the work they do is their reason for existing on the earth. And what they do makes a contribution like no one else can make.
Wouldn't it be great to find that passion in your own life? What work would you "love" to do and never grow tired of doing? Find that and you'll find joy and happiness beyond belief.
How to Find Your Passionn
How do you find that passion? Here's a few ideas:
- Become aware that you are searching for your area of passion. Have the intention to find that passionate work.
- Sit in a quiet distraction free area with a paper and pencil and do the following: Every 20 seconds, ask yourself, "What am I passionate about?" or "What do I love to do?" Then write down every thought that comes to mind. After five minutes, look over your list for common themes. Explore those themes.
- Reach out and try new things. Volunteer to help others and organizations. Ask for new types of work and do it in the evenings. Be open to experiencing new work environments that seem attractive.
- When you find an area of work that you feel you could be passionate about, don't put up mental blocks to exploring that area (like "I couldn't make a living doing that.). Reach out and go to lunch with someone successful in that area. Volunteer to help. Get part time jobs on weekends working in that area. Explore, explore, and explore until you are certain about your area of passion. Then plan a transition and take action to move into that work area.
- Purchase and read the book, "The Passion Test" by Chris and Janet Attwood. There is a test that could help you identify your area of passion. I understand that it is a powerful book. My copy arrives in a day or two.
It's worth your time and effort to find and transition to working in your area of passion. The pleasure you experience, the happiness you will receive, and the joy you will experience make this journey worthwhile. Start your journey of discovery today.
