In the more environmentally conscious world that we live in nowadays, people are starting to become more aware of their impact on the world around them. Wasted energy is a large concern, not just for businesses who want to appear green; it is something that has made its way into the homes of ordinary people as well. People are turning their TVs off completely and not leaving them on standby; turning off lights when they leave the room; and unplugging electrical items when they are not using them, which is obviously a wonderful thing to see.
It is not just for the sake of the environment however that this is important; people are starting to realise that they can save a great deal of money by ensuring that their home is insulated correctly. The amount of heat that can escape from your house is phenomenal, and this means that you have to waste a lot of money by keeping your central heating or fireplace on for much longer than it should actually take to heat your house and keep it at a comfortable temperature.
As stated before, it is becoming much more common practise to insulate your property to a much better standard than ever before. The problem is that many people will go out and buy some fibre glass insulation in order to spread it around their loft themselves; sometimes people will get professionals in to do it for them, particularly if they are older; and sometimes they will spend a lot of money, or get a considerable amount from the council if they are entitled to it, in order to fill their walls with cavity wall insulation. Whilst these are great ways to insulate your house, it could be all for nothing if all the energy in your home is escaping through an old wooden door.
Wooden panel doors are becoming less and less common nowadays, but there are still a large number of them around; compared to the newer plastic UPVC composite doors they leak heat at an alarming rate. They also have an annoying tendency to slip or warp, which can create gaps and let heat out, or let draughts in. Your door is by no means the only thing you need to keep the energy inside; it is simply a piece of the puzzle that should not be overlooked when you are attempting to save energy, and therefore money on your heating bill.
