You got the job. After filling out the piles of paperwork, you have to wonder. Now what? How will you make your first 100 days so powerful that you make a great impression?
Bravo!
You did it. You got the job. Now, just imagine you have a private cheering squad in your court. Let’s get to work so you can start strong and make a terrific impression.
Do you feel at home yet? The next 100 days in your new job are crucial. Like ‘dress for success’ there’s another way to impress your boss, new team and coworkers. Simply put: present for success.
Most likely, you know that public speaking is considered the #1 fear of most people. That means when you show up ready and delighted to present, you’ll stand out as unique.
Your team will notice. Your direct reports will notice. And, your boss will see that you’re a terrific employee. When you feel comfortable in your job, and giving top notch presentations, your first 100 days will be a breeze.
Here’s a few tips to transform the ‘testing’ phase into a highly rewarding experience.
Tip 1. Sharpen Your Listening Skills
Listen closely. Listen for verbal and non-verbal cues. You’re working in a new culture, new team and new work environment. Things are likely to be different than your previous job.
By listening first, you’ll be in a stronger position to know what people expect and want.
Tip 2. Improve Your Written Communicationr
Watch and learn from your teammates. You may have been used to a particular style of written presentations. This may be more or less formal than what is expected in your new job.
By learning the ropes from your colleagues, you’ll quickly adapt to the norms of your current organization.
Tip 3. Focus On Non Verbal Communicationr
Clear communication often happens before you ever open your mouth. Your posture for seated and standing presentations communicates volumes. Focus on these very important unspoken cues.
Tip 4. Notice Meeting Standardsr
Learn how to conduct yourself in meetings. Meeting norms and standards vary widely across different organizations. Some are more formal. Others more conversational…even casual or informal.
You may be used to one style and less familiar with another. What works best in your new organization?
Watch out for old beliefs, habits and thinking. These could pull you down and make it challenging to adapt to your new culture.
Pay especially close attention to how people in your new organization conduct themselves in different types of meetings. Are standards different during meetings with colleagues, different departments or teams? Discover the standards for meeting conduct to excel when meeting with clients and prospects.
By focusing on new norms and standards, you’ll have a powerful roadmap for success. Your presentation skills in the first 100 days will build a solid foundation for success. With this as to build on, you will be sure to get recognized as an exceptional employee.
