Your Inner Ocean

We all have an inner ocean with its own rhythm. It's apparent in how we walk, how fast we talk, how well we relax and in our ability to deal with stress. It’s connected to our life force or ki. Our inner ocean is our soul’s vibration.

Have you ever met someone who regardless of circumstances, they appear fairly relaxed? They have a slower, more thoughtful way of responding to difficult news? This person might embody a slow and measured inner rhythm. On the contrary, incredibly busy people, who deal with daily challenges, but still maintain great attitudes have a faster rhythm with high and low tides to their ocean. One example is not better than the other, they’re just different. Understanding our inner ocean is simply a guide to greater self awareness. When we’re more mindful of the natural state of our ocean within, we know better how to adjust when our energy feels “off” and we’re not on our A-game. Also, we want to understand our inner ocean for the purposes of platonic and romantic relationships. The relationships that bring us the greatest comfort are those where both parties have a similar ocean within and/or complimentary rhythms. Lastly, another reason this concept is important is that sometimes we’re unaware of how we’re showing up in the world because we’ve become accustomed to dealing with an ongoing challenging experience and have lost sight of the fact that we’re not being and living in our natural state. We’ve been this way for so long, that we’re on “automatic”. We don’t feel like ourselves, but we’re too engrossed in our lives to notice. This is common but can be easily remedied.

How can you tell if there’s a shift within your ocean? As you go through the day, take note of yourself. Do you steadily work hard, then jump up from your desk, move very quickly and sit back down? Ok. Now when you’re at home and relaxing, do you still move as quickly or do you allow your body to adjust and slow down? How quickly are you speaking with others? When faced with a challenge, what is your response? Are you thoughtful? Impulsive? If you feel that your responses to the world around you have changed from your usual way of being, check in with your ocean.

Furthermore, if you feel that there’s been a shift in your natural rhythm but wonder how to make time for this self-care, here are 3 tips to regulate your ocean during a busy work day:

Take a Bathroom recharge - I swear by this one. Go into the stall of the bathroom. Have a seat. Place both hands over your heart. Close your eyes. Relax your shoulders. Breathe as deeply and slowly as you can, for as long as you can. Breathe… Back to work! You’ll feel more refreshed.

Take a walk - Do it on your break. Even if it’s just a 15 minute break, you can at least walk around the block. It will help clear your head.

Meditation video - Check out one… or a few, on the internet. Many of them are just 10 minutes long which is totally doable for a quick recharge.

The benefits of understanding our inner ocean is personal awareness, less stress, more mindfulness with yourself and relationships, attracting healthier relationships, and greater success at work. When we’re living authentically in alignment with our soul’s vibration, we feel better and we are better for the world.

Science is, at its core, a process—a framework for testing questions about the world with detailed and structured observations of it to gain knowledge and understanding. Contrary to what some may believe, the scientific process has always been a universal one, accessible to the common people, even if the largest and most newsworthy discoveries are usually left to those with greater time and resources.
