Your Mobile Phone Costs - Are You Overspending? Likely, very likely.

Everyday, we are faced with lower prices being advertised from a huge range of companies. It puts many of us into a false sense of constantly saving money, and being able to spend that saving elsewhere. However, one market doesn't seem to have put us into that sense of satisfaction. The mobile phone market. With the advance in technology bringing us fantastic new iPhones and Blackberry smartphones, capable of doing a few new things (not that much new, to be honest), we do not face falling prices. It's not surprising to hear about people paying up to £50 per month for their latest device. And it seems ridiculous, considering they're only taking advantage of a few new things, such as emails on the move and social networking. Yet consumers are happy to pay several hundreds of pounds per year on this.

What consumers do not realise is that the mobile phone market is unbelievably huge. And no, we don't mean millions of phones in a mobile phone store down your local high street. The majority are online deals. And this means far, far cheaper prices for us. Many of the top mobile phone comparison sites in the UK compare the mobiles (millions, in fact) every single day, and help consumers find the cheapest deal for what they want. You choose the mins, texts and internet, and not that annoying sales assistant in the shop.

Many retailers take advantage of the major network online deals, which smash in-store prices. It's not uncommon to see online prices for the exact same deal you have being up to 50% cheaper than what you pay. We're talking about some of the latest phones on decent contracts starting at less than a tenner (£10) per month.

Most of these deals sound too good to be true. But it only takes a bit of research to find those fantastic value deals and take advantage. Cashback contracts offer consumers the lowest prices, where cash is claimed throughout the contract. These have strict T&C's, but if followed, will save you a wallet full per month, guaranteed. You simply use your mobile phone contract as normal and pay the standard network price. Every few months, all you need to do is send in your mobile phone bill from the network to the retailer you purchased the deal from. They check it, make sure everything's going well, and within 30 days, a nice cheque of a decent amount is made out to you and put through your letterbox. You continue this process throughout your contract, and bob is actually your uncle. The cheques (cashback) overall will have cut your line rental in half (or around that figure!). How does that sound? Nice?

All the latest handsets, such as the iPhone 4s, Blackberry 9900, and the Samsung Galaxy S2, are on deals that vary hugely in price. You could pay £30+ for a deal with thousands of mins and texts, or you could pay just £20 for the exact same deal, if you did a bit of wise work, comparing prices across UK retailers. A few minutes work could equal hundreds of pounds saved per year. How about spending that on something slightly more necessary, eh?
