Lake Hartwell is considered, by many people, to be one of the finest lakes in the United States. Located in South Carolina and the mountains of northeaster
Georgia, the lake has some 962 miles of shoreline and covers over 56,000 acres of water. It is not only a great place to spend your vacation but it is a great place to own property. This is true for individuals that want to live near Lake Hartwell year round or one of those that simply want a vacation spot that can be utilized at their discretion. When looking for real estate in the area, what are some things that you would want to consider?

Like many areas of the country, Lake Hartwell has experienced a decrease in property value so now is a great time for you to be able to purchase property in the area. Depending upon what you are looking to achieve when purchasing real estate in the area, there is certain to be something that will be of interest to you. Here are some options that are available that you may want to consider before making your purchase.

There are plenty of home listings in the Lake Hartwell area, many of which are very near the lake or perhaps right on the lake. You can browse many of these listings online or contact a real estate agent that is familiar with the area that can assist you in finding exactly what you need. If possible, you should consider visiting the area to look at some of the houses before making your purchase, perhaps taking advantage of an open house or making an appointment with a real estate agent so that you can tour the properties that are of interest to you.

Another option that you have available to you is to purchase a lake lot and build exactly what you would like on the property. As is the case with existing homes, you will have plenty of options available to you when it comes to purchasing property in the area. You can either purchase the lakefront property or you will spend a little bit less if you purchase it within driving distance of the lake but not right on the lake itself. It really depends on what you're looking for and purchasing a lot instead of an existing home gives you the opportunity to continue to build on the property or to build exactly what you would like from the very start.

One other option that you may want to consider is to purchase something that is within driving distance of the lake that may be a bit more reasonably priced. This would include real estate in the Highlands, NC and surrounding area. If you purchase property in that area, you will not only have easy access to the lake so that you can enjoy weekends on the water, you will have access to many of the other features in the Highlands area, such as hiking and golfing.
