It is one of the main pilgrimage destinations for the Buddhists. Sarnath is the birth place for the celebrated Mantra, “Buddham Sharnam Gachhami”. The city has several temples and monuments that include Dhamekha Stupa, Chaukhandi Stupa and monasteries and temples of different schools of Buddhism from China, Japan, Thailand and Burma. 4. Kushinagar: It is the death place of Lord Buddha. Kushinagar is a small town located in Kushinagar district of Uttar Pradesh. Since Lord Buddha died here, it has become one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage site. It is also known as the place of Mahaparinirvana. There are several stupas and Buddhist temples in Kushinagar.
