Public Speaking: What To Do About Those Butterflies.

Most public speakers will tell you that they suffer from being nervous and having butterflies in their stomach before they are due to deliver a speech. So if you were thinking that you were alone in this ……. Don’t worry …… you aren’t. Good speakers will tell you that having butterflies is a good sign. By this they mean that you haven’t become complacent or blasé and that because of that you will probably deliver a better speech. The trick they assure us is to “get the butterflies swimming in formation”!

What SHOULD your Website be Doing for Your Business?

A couple of years ago, most websites were just a glorious technicolour brochure that happened to be available online. We just wanted to use it to impress our clients, and to have somewhere to send them if they wanted to check us out. Because of the upsurge in Social Media, we are now realizing that a website can be and do SO MUCH MORE for our business! I am having a conversation a week with various people wanting to explore on-line options, both for delivering content, staying in touch with clients and suppliers and perhaps even earning them money.

So You Want to Become a Speaker?

Or at least you think that it may be a good idea for your business? Well that’s great. Just like networking groups, people joi Speakers Associations for many different reasons. In my experience there are 4 main reasons why people join a networking group. 1. They are a startup business. Most of this group of people are desperate for new business. They have an idea, a passion and have just started up their new business. They have more time than clients and they want to join a networking group to get new clients FAST! A lot of times they are operating out of desperation.

What do New Year's Resolutions And Goals Have In Common?

Quite a lot really! For most of us here in South Africa work pretty much grinds to a halt over the Christmas & New Year period. Through traditio New Year is the time when we evaluate our lives and set resolutions. However, 70% of people don’t even bother to do this anymore because by the 10th of January, most resolutions made have already fallen by the wayside. After a few years of unsuccessful attempts, most people just give up on even making them.

Public Speaking - How to Collect that Valuable Information from Your Audience.

One of the things you want when you accept speaking opportunities for free is: The details of the people in the audience. Why? Well these are your potential future clients and if you don’t get their details, you aren’t going to be able to stay in touch. You aren’t going to be able to add them to your database and build a relationship with them over time. You are never going to be able to market to them and therefore you may as well not have wasted your time doing the speech in the first place.

Has Your Business Hit A Glass Ceiling?

The term “glass ceiling” is most often used in corporate jobs. It is used to explain the phenomenon where people climb the ladder, get promoted, seem to be on track and then for no apparent reason – their promotion path seems to stall and they get no further. However, in my experience this phenomenon also occurs in businesses. The business is doing really well, growing year on year, and then all of a sudden the turnover levels out and nothing you seem to do makes any real change.

Vitamins and Vampires

I had a busy week last week and to say that I was a little ‘flat’ was an understatement. Public Speaking - How To Create A Great Speech

In this article I want to give you a formula for how to create a speech. We all know that a speech needs to have 3 elements in order to work. An opening. The body of the speech. And a Close. Lets look at each element, however, and break it down a bit further. The Opening: Everyone will tell you that you need to create a “strong” opening to your speech. This is your attention grabbing statement. The thing that settles down the crowd and gets them listening to you.

Now who says watching TV is a waste of time! The first was the difference in the attitude between the winner and the runner up.

So... Tell Me What You Want!

“So, tell me what you want, what you really, really want!” “I’ll tell you what I want, what I really, really want!”rn- SONG LYRICS – How many of you can definitely, absolutely, unequivocally, tell me right now, exactly what it is that you want and what you want your business to achieve? For most of us who run a small business this seems quite a fluid thing. What you want or what you think you want may change fairly frequently. It may depend on who we have been talking to. It could depend on what new opportunities have come our way.

Public Speaking - By Far The Best Way To Sell Your Coaching Services.

I have worked as a professional sales rep and I can tell you that selling my own coaching services has been the hardest thing I have ever had to sell. This is for two main reasons: 1. Not everyone needs coaching, so you need to meet just the right people at just the right moment in their lives. Just at that moment when they are looking for different answers and open to the idea of help from someone else.

The introduction of social networking has opened up a whole new frontier for speakers. They give you the ability to build your own tribe – people who enjoy the information you provide and want to follow you and get more hints, tips and value from being connected. From a speakers point of view it is a really easy and simple way of staying in touch with a large number of people. You get the opportunity to show them on a regular, even daily basis that you have something interesting, unique and valuable to say.

Are you Change Resistant?

As a business coach I often come across people who are “stuck”, for whatever reason, and resisting change with every fibre of their being. Even when they know that things have moved on and markets have changed, they stubbornly refuse to change they way they have always done it. One easy way to see if you are “change resistant” is to look at your ideas and feelings about some of the “new technology”, and new ways of marketing businesses like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Have you embraced the changes or are you adopting a wait and see attitude?

Use "Magic Bullets" to Close More Sales.

We all know that in any relationship there are “three magic words”. We don’t always want to say them. Sometimes we think that our actions will say them for us, or at least convey their meaning, but we all know the effect of saying “I love you” at just the right time. All objections crumble, and those three small but powerful words pave a way forward for the relationship, even when everything seemed lost. Now imagine if that were possible in business!
