Freedom From Chronic Pain - EFT Identifies and Dissolves the Root Causes

Chronic pain is the body's way of informing us that it is not at peace; it is diseased. It is also a guaranteed way of getting our attention. An enormously effective, safe and non-intrusive way we can respond to pain is by applying Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT). In fact, one of the much-publicised benefits of EFT is pain relief. As an EFT Practitioner, and Progressive Emotional Release (Pro-ER) Practitioner specialising in serious illness, I work with people experiencing chronic physical, emotional, or mental pain on a daily basis.

Letting Go of the Guilt of Being Ill Using EFT

When I work with clients who are seriously ill, one of the strongest negative emotions they often feel around being ill is guilt. They feel guilty because they can't work or do the things they once did; guilty for needing care and support; guilty for resting and guilty for not doing enough in general. The challenge with this limiting belief is that it influences our rest time. It can lead to us dismissing our bodies' needs because there is just so much to do and we "should be doing more". We decide to soldier on instead.

Celebrating the Highly Sensitive Personality

Long before I was seriously ill, I often had a sense that I felt emotions more deeply and painfully than many of my friends and colleagues. Things seemed to roll off their backs, while I became greatly affected in some way by what I'd seen or heard. I easily picked up on how others were feeling, and their energies affected my own. I was forever conce ed about what the people around me were undergoing: had I said or done something to offend them, and what did that look they just gave me actually mean? It was important for me to put others' needs before my own.

What Initially Causes Serious Illness? Tap away the culprits with EFT

One of the questions on my EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) client intake form asks “Are you on any medication?” Many of my clients can easily list several forms of medication they are taking; ranging from blood pressure pills, to diuretics, to painkillers, to anti-depressants. These medications are managing the current symptoms, but they are not resolving the underlying emotional issues - which could well have triggered the illness in the first place. Moreover, if these issues are not dealt with, will there ever be an opportunity for healing at a core level?

Being More YOU in 2012

Happy New Year to you! How is your 2012 so far? What commitments have you made for the year ahead? What changes will take place in your life this year? And what are you doing about being more YOU? Allow me to explain. At the beginning of a new year, a lot of advice is flying around … how you can look different; how you can feel different; what you can accomplish; how successful you can be in various areas of your life, and … and … Ugh! Even considering all of that de-energizes me and jangles my nervous system!

"I'm overwhelmed: there's so much to do and so little time!"

It's that time of year when it's easy to become overwhelmed by what needs to be accomplished. EFT not only enables us to feel more relaxed and in control very quickly (which inevitably leads to clarity), it can also be used as a preventative tool. If we anticipate what might happen, we can tap on those conce s ahead of time. For example, there are many reasons why Christmas is not a relaxing, joyful time for some people: family gatherings can become dreaded occassions; gift buying can be expensive and stressful, and with an abundance of food around, it is easy to overindulge.

Tap in the Gratitude With EFT and Speed Up the Healing Process

When we are struggling to overcome a chronic illness or chronic pain, our lives become very focused on what is wrong, and the steps we need to take in order to recover. Our lives may consist of appointments with doctors, specialists, therapists, and various practitioners. In fact, we may feel as though the life we once knew has vanished, or at the very most, been put on hold. Our conversations and our thoughts revolve around how we're going to make it through the next week, month or year and what we need to do in order to make it as smooth as possible.

The need to make peace with the past in order to heal

The majority of chronically ill clients I work with are on some form of medication. Their medical doctors have outlined what they can hope to accomplish, and how their body will respond, if they continue to use the medication; and what to expect if they choose not to take the drugs, or decide to stop taking them. A lot of attention is focused on fixing the illness as it now exists, and rightly so. On the other hand, surely coping strategies are only part of the equation. What led to the illness appearing in the first place, and why is that rarely considered?

A Limited Belief System Restricts Healing Potential

A few weeks ago, when I was using Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) working with a telephone client, ‘Anna’, she stated, “Bad things happen to good people: it’s always the good people who get sick”. Now, I have no way of either refuting or proving this, but she believed it and I accepted her belief. Anna has been existing with very severe multiple chemical sensitivities (MCS) for 18 months, showing no sign of improvement. Her breathing is supported by an oxygen tank, and she is unable to tolerate (amongst many other things) any cleaning products, perfumes, moulds and most food.

Unearthing the Downside to Being Well: Discover the hidden ways illness protects you and tap them away with EFT

I have just started a new six-week teleclass series on chronic illness, Tap Into Your Healthy Self, and in the first teleclass we discussed, and used EFT on, the downside of being well and healthy. This is a concept which continues to fascinate me. The first reaction to there being a downside to being well and healthy is most likely to be one of surprise and sometimes, anger. Everyone wants to be well, don’t they? No one chooses to be ill. Or do they? Is remaining chronically ill a way to remain safe and unpressurised?

Deserving Wellness

When I was severely ill with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), the one constant factor in my somewhat restricted life was the unequivocal support I was given by my parents and my husband. If I hadn't received their love and encouragement on a daily basis, I know the journey would have been far tougher and more desperate at times.

Overcoming the Subconscious Resistance to Change - Emotional Freedom Techniques

When I work with new clients, I’m always interested in why they have chosen to learn and use EFT. The answer is usually in the negative, “I’m very ill”, “I’m overweight”, “I procrastinate”, or “I don’t have enough money in my life”, etc. As a result of this, I changed one of the questions on my client intake form to read ‘What are your expectations of EFT?’ This ensures the client focuses on what she would like to accomplish rather than what is going wrong in her life. Sometimes it’s easier to give attention to what we don’t want in our lives, rather than what we do want.

Freedom From Chronic Pain - The Power of Metaphor

When I was first introduced to EFT at the beginning of 2004, I was desperate to alleviate the intense and chronic pai I was experiencing as a result of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). In particular, pain in my knee joints, thighs and neck, as well as the evening headaches which verged on migraines. One of the many symptoms of the illness is acute muscular pain and there were days when the pain was immeasurable.

Are You Making Yourself Sick Because You Can’t Say “No”?

When I was interviewed for the Inner Healing Compass teleseminar series, I talked about how setting healthy boundaries can prevent long term physical pain and illness. I’ve considered this a lot lately, because it seems that most of the work I do with clients is based around feeling safe enough to set boundaries and avoid compromise. One of my clients felt compromised and the result was that her allergies flared up.
