Brand awareness: Are you building or damaging your reputation?

Yesterday while doing some research on Twitter I was alerted to an article that made me stop and think. The writer was commenting on how airlines were harnessing the power of Twitter and using this tool as an information-sharing platform. This allowed them to share information with customers as it was happening to keep them informed of delays, issues with flights, etc. However, he noticed that one particular airline had set their Twitter account to private, requiring people to physically make a request and wait until their account was approved before they could access any information.r

Building a Strong Brand: Are you using your Secret Sauce?

If I asked you to define the word ‘brand’ – what would you say? If you answered: “it’s your business logo, your business card, letterhead, envelopes, with compliments slips, marketing material, brochures, website etc”, you’ve responded similarly to many other business owners. While these things are all very important they are really more about the ‘branding’ elements that will help you to communicate your brand message to your prospects and clients. Your ‘brand’ goes much deeper than these ‘branding’ elements.

What’s Your Money Type

“If I had more money all my debt and my problems would go away”. These are familiar words to which I’m sure, many of us can relate. Unfortunately however, having more money will often not solve our problems. Just like Susan, who defies all odds to win the coveted Lotto ticket. She finds herself penniless just a few short years down the track. Or Julie, the business owner who secures a major contract and deposits the largest sum of money she has ever made in her business. Months later, she’s struggling to pay her bills and is desperately trying to win another large contract.

Money Insights: Is the Way You Manage Your Money Keeping You Stuck?

If someone gave you $15,000 with the instructions that you could spend it on whatever you wanted - what would you do? This was a questio I was recently asked. Interesting! Had I been asked this several months ago I would have responded quite differently to what my response would be today. Previously, I would have upgraded my iPad to the latest iPad 2, as well as updated some of my other office equipment. You see, I love technology – especially if it has the Apple logo on it. So what would I do now? [I’ll answer that in a moment].

Brand Checkup: Are You Building AND Monitoring Your Online Profile?

Remember the saying: “Sticks and stones will break my bones, but names [words] will never hurt me”? It was something my friends and I used to chant in the playground when we were being teased. Now, as an adult I have to wonder – who on earth coined that phrase? I’d like to tell them that they were wrong. Very wrong! I only have to watch the negative impact on my children’s mental wellbeing when they’re at the receiving end of a nasty comment or taunt.

As a business woman, one of the biggest obstacles I face is finding focus. There have been times that I have laid out a plan of action and all it took was one thing, a telephone call from a client or colleague, a comment in my Twitter feed, an urgent email, and I was completely off track. Are You Engaging (or Disengaging and Enraging) Your Network?

Many business owners can see the value of using social media and other online tools to share helpful and relevant information with their network in order to build their brand and reputation as an expert. Unlike traditional ‘interruption’ marketing (where businesses continue to push and bombard the marketplace with sales/promotional information) social media marketing (often referred to as ‘relationship’ marketing) is more about building and nurturing relationships with your network. Some of which could very well be your ideal client.

Build Your Brand With Media Attention

As the owner of a service-based business I’m sure you’re aware of the importance of building your reputation as a specialist in your field. When you’re seen as an expert, you increase the number of people on your newsletter list and social media networks as they want to learn more about you and the information you provide. And, more importantly, you increase the likelihood that they will want to invest in your product and services through their desire to achieve the same results other people are experiencing through working with you.

Victim of the Tall Poppy Syndrome. What to Do When Things Get Nasty.

The tall poppy syndrome is well and truly alive. For those of you who may not be familiar with this saying, Wikipedia describes the tall poppy syndrome as: “a social phenomenon in which people of genuine merit are resented, attacked, cut down, or criticised because their talents or achievements elevate them above or distinguish them from their peers”.

Building a strong brand requires time and commitment as well as ensuring you portray a consistent on-brand message. It’s what other people think of when your name is mentioned so you should be protecting your brand and reputation at all costs. Is Your Money Cruise Control Blocking Your Income?

Each and every one of us has a money cruise control that will affect the amount of income we generate in our business. What’s a money cruise control? It’s the certain amount of money that you’re comfortable making. And, just like a car’s cruise control is set to a certain speed, our money cruise control is set to a certain income figure that, once you reach it, will be difficult to go over.

Are Your Money Beliefs Blocking You From Charging What You're Worth?

The topic of money is something we don't often talk about. This was true for my client - Julie. During one of our recent coaching sessions she mentioned that the only memory she had of her parents talking about money were remarks they made in passing. Comments such as: "it didn't grow on trees", "it was very hard to make" and "it's almost impossible to earn a decent living". It's important to realise that what we see, hear and experience in our childhood, particularly around money can make a significant impact on how money shows up (or doesn't show up) for us in later years.

Breaking Through Income Barriers By Stepping Into Your Power With Money

For those of you who are regular readers of my articles - you would have seen that over the past few weeks I’ve been concentrating on the topic of money. Money is often something we don’t talk about with our friends and colleagues, other than the occasional complaint that there’s ‘never enough’ or ‘it’s something you have to work hard for’ – or another similar comment. The reaso I’ve pulled back the covers on this ‘taboo’ subject is because the relationship you have with money can seriously undermine your business’s success.

5 Mistakes to Avoid When Pricing Your Services

Whether you’re just starting up your business or you’re launching a program, one of the greatest challenges that you may be struggling with is deciding what to charge. If you are – don’t worry. Many service-based businesses struggle with this, even I did when I first started out in business – some 15 years ago! I admit that back in those early years I would see what my competitors were charging and use this figure as a benchmark. Or, I would ask some of my closest friends and colleagues for their advice on what they believed would be a suitable price range.
