Have A Cookie Toay

Have a cookie today. On a diet? Break it for a bit and have a cookie. Busy. Lots of work. Kids have guitar lessons later? Have a cookie today. Not just any cookie, you absolute favorite. And one more caveat . . . take at least 5 minutes to eat it, regardless of the size. Take more if you wish, but at the minimum, 5 minutes. Sounds silly? Maybe, but I bet most of you are smiling as you read this. You are also learning a lot too.

Trace Minerals: My Contribution to Running

Few feelings are better than knowing your work in a given area has made a contribution to others. I wanted to make a difference in the world of running and knew it would not happen via my legs. Fortunately, my career choice was an ideal vehicle. Twenty five years ago, I started incorporating nutrition into my practice -- vitamins, minerals, herbs and also trace minerals. The latter was rarely mentioned in the field of nutrition, mostly a side note. "Oh by the way. . .trace minerals should be used to. . . whenever you get around it to" was the pervading idea of the day.

Massage: Is It Really Worth It?

You know you like it. You know you want to. But do you really need it? IF you are active, the answer is a booming YES. IF you are not active. . . get active. And the answer is still a booming YES. Everyone loves a good massage. It is so relaxing and refreshing. Some know about at least a percentage of the tremendous benefits it has on the human body. For example: Exercise and stretch weak, tight, or atrophied muscles. Help athletes of any level prepare for, and recover from, strenuous workouts. Improve the condition of the body’s largest organ—the skin.r

Is My Life Worth It?

It always seems to start about 2 weeks or so before a birthday that has at least the number 4 as the first number. Is my life worth it? Have I really accomplished anything? Am I making any difference? These are typically spoken more as declarative statements versus questions. A bit of desperation blended with a dash of self-loathing are the ingredients in this amalgamation disguised as questions. The more the question is asked, the fewer the answers come forth and the darker the feelings get.

The Anti Aging Movement

Fifteen years ago, we started researching and testing anti aging formulas. We tested high dose amino acid formulas and found them effective in the short run and very problematic in the medium and long run (amino sequence problems; deficiencies etc.). We tested homeopathic formulas and found them to be outright dangerous. We tested, tested and retested and finally came up with a formula that would eventually be named Hgh Plus.

Avoiding the Trap of Self Pity

You don’t always get it right. I don’t always get it right. We make mistakes and fail at times. It is a natural, albeit annoying part of life. And it feels poorly. Who am I kidding. . . .it is horrible! Depending upon the situation, it is either disappointing or gut-wrenchingly crushing. It cannot be avoided.

Do Sports Make You Smarter?

Can sports make you smarter? According to a recent study, the answer is a resounding YES. Researchers at the U of Granada compared subjects who participated in sports versus sedentary people. Those who played sports --regardless of the sport - exhibited better cognitive performance and reaction time as compared to the sedentary individuals. In addition, active people had longer attention spans and better memories. Sport, according to the researchers, also helps promote the growth of nerves and blood cells in the brain, while preventing neuro-degeneration.

Creating Endless Possibilities

The art of Shodo provides blunt feedback. You prepare the ink by placing water inside the suzuri (used for grinding the ink and mixing it with water), grind it with a sumi (ink stick) and over time, create the ink. Depending upon how hard you grind it and length of time will dictate the quality and color of the ink. You place the shitajiki (usually felt sheet that is placed under the paper to absorb the ink) under the paper. You prepare the fude (brushes) and of course during this whole time, you prepare you mind, body and spirit for the task ahead.

The Lessons I Learn From Real Estate Investing

About a decade ago, I make a major decision to purchase an investment home. The reason was to have my money make money, or so I told myself. The real reason was because everyone was doing it and I fell into the Trap. The Trap is a societal "black hole" that pulls you into what is hot at the moment. In this case, real estate was THE thing to do and unfortunately, I was sucked into its orbit. Ten years later and it was been a learning experience. This is a nice way of saying it has been horrible. Nevertheless, there are some major lessons I learned. Here are a few:

The focus in this post is one of the most useful but under- valued diagnostic- type tools — Trace Mineral Analysis or Hair Analysis. If the eyes are considered the “Gateway to the Soul”, then the hair is the “Gateway to the Minerals.” Hair Analysis is a precise way of determining the following: - Mineral and electrolyte levels such as calcium, magnesium, iron etc. - Trace Mineral levels such as manganese, molybdenum, boron, keys to healthy liver detoxification, skeletal health, sugar regulation etc.

If I Only Had A Pause Button

If I only had a pause button, I would have gotten blisters on my thumb this holiday season. If I only had a pause button, I would have used it for this past Thanksgiving. I have so much to be grateful for, from my family to my health and countless factors in between. That day was truly a celebratory day, one which gratitude and appreciation were the stars of the show. A feast at the Brown Derby highlighted the evening. If I had a pause button, I would have used it. I did not want the joy to end.

One Inch Vision

To me, the biggest difference between a good teacher and a great one is not the number of hours spent honing their craft, though this is a factor. It is not the numbers of degrees or awards they have accumulated. This is impressive, but not the prime consideration. The major difference between a good teacher and a great teacher is one inch vision.

Dancing With The Tao

For a large portion of my life, I have been an end-product oriented kind of guy. Success or failure was defined by the end results, period. If the end result was what I wanted, all was well. If not, it was considered a disaster. I “failed” at baseball, having only made it to the college level. Never mind, the fact that I met so many wonderful people who had a most favorable impact on my life. This was insignificant. I “succeeded” at martial arts, having accumulated 3 black belts. . .the same black belts that are now collecting dust somewhere. So the story goes.

A Must Read if You Drink Tea

Hot for coffee, boiling for tea? That has always been the suggestion passed down from generation to generation. There is more to it than that though. Different teas perform best at different temperatures; that is, you will reap the great rewards in terms of health benefits and taste if you follow the guidelines below. Anti cancer compounds increase with brewing over time is one of the many examples. Heat is needed to extract them from the tea, but they are “hyper-sensitive” to overheating.

Comments About Japan from My Shodo Sensei

I have the great honor of taking Shodo (Japanese calligraphy) from one of the best teacher of any subject I have ever encountered. In addition to learning this fascinating subject, I have learned a great deal about the Japanese culture, language, unique topics such as Kotodama and mostly, learned a lot about myself. Izumi san is a true fine artist at heart. Aside from exquisite skills, her manner of speaking is a blend of philosophy and poetry. That is what happens when you follow your Tao, your way and speak from the heart.

Kiwi also contains high amounts of Vitamin C which improves enzyme activity, producing enough metabolic energy to immediately lift your spirits (as well as your immune system).

This System is THE Key to Strong Immunity and Longevity

Along with balancing hormones such as hGH, a major key to health and longevity is the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is an extensive network of capillary vessels that transports the interstitial fluid of the body as lymph to the venous blood circulation. The lymph is the almost colorless fluid, containing chiefly white blood cells, that is collected from the tissues of the body and transported in this system. The lymphatic system is probably the least known of all of the systems in the body but is certainly one of the most important. Why?

Women and the Dangers of Fasting

“Addicted to the rapid weight loss, some woman are taking this new diet craze to dangerous extremes. Women who do these juice cleanses can, and do, die from heart problems.” This is the conclusion of Dr. Oz, based upon recently published studies. In a juice cleanse, you eat no food, just fruit or vegetable juices for a few days or weeks. The extreme low-calorie diet results in fast weight loss, but Dr. Oz said it’s mostly water weight and muscle mass — something you definitely don’t want, since muscle is what keeps your metabolism fired up.

Also, I have had the honor of passing them along as well, allowing others to have better experiences.

7 Ways To Do It All

One of my favorite stories comes from Taoism. There was a young man walking by and he saw an old monk planting a seed. The young man asked the monk why he was planting that particular seed as it would take several decades to mature. The monk replied: “I live my life with these 2 thoughts in the foreground at all times. One, I think I am going to live forever. Two, I think this will be my last day on earth.”

The Disaster of Eating 5-6 Meals Per Day

Be an electrician. It is easier. . . . That was the advise of one of my first nutrition teachers. The reason he said is that so many people read a book, follow a twitter feed or pick up a magazine and now they are nutrition experts. At least with electricians, people are truthful. They know that they really don’t know and reading a book or the Electrician Blog may help, but it does not make them an expert. As a result of this, a number of ill-advised pieces of nutrition get circulated. One of the biggest disasters is the notion that we should be eating 5-6 smaller meals per day.

Often (and of great concern), the ratio is 8-10 to 1, carbs to protein.

Here are a series of easy to do things that can greatly improve sleep: 1. Train in the morning. Yes, it releases the stress of the day, but exercise also elicits cortical alertness. Translation. . . .it pumps up not only your muscles, but also you nervous system. This is not good for sleep. Leave at least 3 hours between the end of exercise and sleep. 2. Get in a groove.

The Heart of the Matter

Your heart beats about once a second. Live to 80 and your heart will have beat over 2.5 billion times. That is more than the number of any other muscle in your body will contract during your lifetime, no matter how many push ups you do. Why do athletes in particular often take their heart for granted, nutritionally speaking? The major reason is that most believe that it gets exercise while we are moving other body parts. Running for example. That is true, and as such, we need to make sure we are getting the right nutritional support for that oh so important muscle. Here are some ideas:r
