Six steps to get started in the speaking business

A lot of business owners enjoy speaking and want to build this aspect of their work. There is an entire industry devoted to professional speaking and very specific ways to work the system. Follow these six steps to build a speaking business for yourself. 1. The first thing to really look at is how you’re positioned in the marketplace and why corporations, associations, or groups would pay you to speak. 2. Next, develop your “signature talk” or series of signature talks, again based on what the audience ‘would do anything for’ and ‘pay anything to have’ as a result of having you there.r

How to Hire Effectively

Today’s article strategy is how to hire effectively. I want to be really transparent with you on this topic. We hired our first full time, in-person employee three years ago and she’s still with us, which is so great. However, a lot of the people that we hired afterward are no longer working for our company. That’s because we hired very ineffectively. They were all lovely people, they just weren’t the right people.

Create VIP packages that are irresistible to prospects

There are many ways to set up your packages, but I recommend building levels that entice clients to go for the high end. This not only serves you, but it truly serves your clients as well. First of all, when clients stay with you for extended periods, they get that much more value, content and support to help them achieve their goals. Second, you can be there to support them as new situations crop up, which always do in business.

Follow up calls: it’s not about you, it’s about helping your prospects

When you find yourself putting off making your follow up calls, there is probably some type of fear at work. Maybe you fear being rejected, hearing the word “No” or feeling bad when someone doesn’t want to do your program. I understand why you could feel that way, but here’s what I want you to think about. I’ll make it really, really simple for you. First, there’s a reason that you are doing what you are doing for a living. What is that reason?

How To Create Your Compelling Signature Talk Title

One of the ways to play a much bigger game in marketing your business and really leverage what you’re doing right now is speaking. Speaking is one of the best ways to leverage yourself in your marketing because instead of talking one-to-one, you’re now talking one-to-many. Instead of marketing one-to-one, you’re now marketing one-to-many. That is the ultimate leverage.

If you want to grow your business, bring on an assistant

If you want to grow your business, hands-down, you need an assistant. And by “grow,” I really mean “make more money.” Oh, I know what you’re thinking! “I don’t make enough money to hire an assistant yet. That’s just not something that I can do right now.” I know you’re thinking this because I thought the same thing too, at first. I resisted working with a Virtual Assistant (VA) for over a year. Then I tried it because I didn’t have any other choice. I was so busy working on client projects and actually seeing clients that I didn’t have time to market my business.

How To Define What You Really Do In Business

How do you define what you really do? This is a problem that many entrepreneurs have in terms of their marketing. For most entrepreneurs actually, but it’s especially so for people who do more than one thing in their business. I’m a big fan of saying, “Be known for one thing and one thing only,” but for a lot of people that poses a problem because they are really good at several things. So, for example you might be a nutritionist who is also into Reiki and natural remedies and jujitsu.

How To Accept Change In Your Business

Accept change because if you want to get more clients and you want to make more money and you want to play a bigger game and you really want to leverage and multiply your business and breakthroughs, then that means something needs to change. But here’s what I’ve learned in my life so far is that we human beings are not wired for change. If you think about the body’s ability to keep the body temperature the same and the saline content in your blood the same and the water the same and if you think about your pH level, it’s always about balance. It’s always about keeping the status quo.

How to build your list with free teleclasses and live workshops

Free programs, both teleclasses and live workshops, are one of the best ways I know to build your list, provide value and establish the Know, Like, and Trust Factor. Putting together the programs is relatively simple. Yet, there are two key factors to keep your eye on: 1. How much information should you share for free? 2. Are you attracting new people to achieve your list building goals?

Maybe you’re not doing as much marketing, maybe your marketing is not working as well. Something has shifted and you’re seeing that not as many clients are coming in.

Why it’s better to have one niche vs. two

Are you struggling with picking a single niche and considering going for two (or more) targets? This is a common problem my clients come to me with. For example, at a networking event, you‘ll need to hand out two cards and that leaves people confused about where to put you and who you serve. Rather than make your life hard, I suggest you look at both niches and think about which one fits with who you are and connects to your passion.

How to Create Focus Time in Your Day

I believe that every entrepreneur needs to have some dedicated focus time in their business to be able to grow it whether growing it for you means getting more clients and making more money or if it means leveraging it and multiplying it by leaps and bounds. You need to create some focus time in your business to make that happen. When I say to people, “Try to create at least four hours per day for marketing or growth or development,” I hear lots of shrieks, “Ah, how can I do that? I’m so busy.”

Think BIGGER About What’s Possible For You and Get Out of Your OWN Way!

I once asked a few people to be part of my Research and Development team to find out what stopped them from getting out there in a BIG way to get clients. I also asked them to tell me the MOST they could see themselves making being self-employed. Honestly, I was saddened by the answers that rolled in, and their answers were right in line with the people I talk to on a daily basis.

Track Your Marketing Schedule a Year Ahead

To keep track of what days are meant for what in your calendar, you need to figure out how much business development time you’ll need, how many client days you’ll need and how many “off” days you’ll need, including vacation time. I recommend buying a laminated year-at-a-glance calendar and designating each day’s “purpose” with a colored sticker (mine are blue for client days, red for business development days and green for free-days, vacations and weekends) similar to the Excel spreadsheet I created for the “Be sure to take time off” section.

How to Implement More

Today’s tip is about the discipline to implement more in your business. I hear from a lot of entrepreneurs, and I have been hearing this for eleven years, “Fabienne, I know what to do. I’ve got a lot of ideas, but I just don’t seem to have the discipline to put them all in place. What do I do? How do you do it? How do these successful business owners do it?” And, my answer always is, “Think about the word ‘entrepreneur.’”

Speaking is One of the Best Ways to Attract Ideal Clients

I would, without a doubt in my mind, say that aside from networking, speaking is one of the best ways I know to attract your Ideal Clients. It is by far the best way I’ve experienced and seen my clients experience how to literally PULL clients to them. Here’s why: When you’ve already done the work of figuring out who your ideal clients are and what their problems are, there’s no better way to pull them in than by giving a workshop or seminar about that very topic and how to solve it.

Focus your networking efforts on your ideal client

Before we move forward in your networking, we need to get really clear on who you want to meet. We’ll first focus on your ideal client. Now, to get clear on who your ideal client is, let’s first agree that there are several things that universally constitute an ideal client: • Those you really enjoy working with • Those who need your help, badly • Those who recognize that working with you is essential • Those who can easily be identified and contacted • Those what will happily pay what you’re worth, without negotiating

Get more clients using the “know-like-trust” factor

I can’t honestly remember where and when I first heard about the Know-Like-and-Trust Factor (who knows, I probably think I invented it! Ha!) It’s so ingrained in my way of thinking about networking, Client Attraction and Closing the Sale, that I take its origin for granted sometimes. But as you can see, I apply it to everything. It just works so well that you too will want to apply it to your way of doing everything from now on. OK, so what is this Know-Like-Trust Factor and why is it so crucial to effective Client Attraction and networking?

How I personally take action

Here’s what happens when you don’t keep track and take action: A few years ago I had a year of retooling and re-gearing. I knew that I was on the cusp of making it REALLY big in my business, but I knew something had to change or be tweaked in order for it to happen. I had a deep ‘knowing’ that my calling wasn’t about just helping people MARKET their small businesses, but also helping them get out of their own way, giving them permission to succeed, and then all the tools to do so.

Everyone likes a good story. This is especially true in business when you tell the passion-filled story of your success. That’s because listeners are captivated, aching to imagine their own success story too. What is a Compelling Story? Get Out There in a BIG Way with Warm Letters

When I ask people who say they don’t have enough clients what they do to market themselves, I’m often (really often) surprised to hear that they only 1) put up flyers in the neighborhood, 2) talk to people at parties about what they do (whenever they do go to a party) or 3) go to a networking group once in a while (“but the reaso I don’t really go that often is because it doesn’t work to get me clients.”) What do you think I’m thinking? Exactly. They’re keeping themselves a secret. No wonder they don’t have a full practice.

The Check From The Universe

Have you ever heard that story about how Jim Carrey wrote himself a check for $10,000,000.00 when he was a struggling actor? He carried it around in his wallet every single day. Each time he opened his wallet, he couldn’t help but look at it, and when he did, he would envision what it would feel like to make that much money on one movie.

My clients and I seem to talk a lot about implementing referral systems in business. Once a client and I have set up a few of the 10 steps of the Client Attraction System, there always comes a time when referrals (or shall we say, the lack of them) becomes the hot topic to focus on in our coaching.

Get More Clients by Letting Prospects Become Voyeurs

Whether we admit to it or not, we as humans love things like gossip, soap operas, eavesdropping, sharing secrets, peeping, and Entertainment Tonight (basically, everything on the E! cable network). And let’s not forget People Magazine—yes, I read it religiously every week. Why are we obsessed with this as a culture? It’s the human interest. It’s finding out about OTHER people’s lives, the intricacies, the quirky little details, the strange ways of being. Sometimes we’re looking to see how DIFFERENT others’ lives are. Perhaps we’re aspiring to be like them, or maybe we’re ridiculing them.

6 Ways To Creating a Talk Title That PULLS Clients In Like Crazy!

I’ve often said that the 3 best ways to attract clients quickly and consistently are: 1. consistent networking, 2. a stay-in-touch vehicle such as an ezine, and 3. a Client Attractive signature talk. What’s a signature talk? It’s the one talk you give that you start to be known for, referred for, and the one you’ll know like the back of your hand. It’s the talk you give over and over again, the one you’ve mastered and the one crafted to attract all the clients you need.

Determine the Viability of Your Target Audience BEFORE You Begin Marketing

Ok, so you’ve identified your ideal client profile. The question you now have to ask yourself is, “Have I chosen a viable target audience?” meaning, is it actually worthwhile to market to these people? You can have all the focus, drive, and good intentions to market to a group of people, but if they’re not easily reached in large numbers and inexpensively, if they don’t congregate often or they’re too difficult to locate, it’s going to make your Client Attraction attempts much more difficult. Here are some questions to ask yourself (be a hard grader): Can you find them easily?r

NOT Marketing Makes You Stingy

The real reason we make excuses around self-promotion is that self- employed people are afraid of what people might think. Our businesses are such an extension of who we are that we are very careful about how we talk about our businesses and what we say to others about it. The problem is (as I’ve said so many times before), if you don’t market consistently, you won’t have clients consistently. Period. So, how can you stop being afraid of what people might think of you? You need to reframe how you view marketing. Here’s what I usually say to a reluctant marketer:

Stop Being A Wimp With Your Clients!

QUOTE: “Substantial value is created when the client achieves more than they expected. One of the best ways to ensure the client achieves more than they expect is to ask more of them than they expected you to.” – Thomas Leonard, founder of Coachville My translation: don’t be wimpy with your clients! One of the most interesting shifts I’ve seen in my Client Attraction coaching practice and Masterminds over the last 11 years is that clients are seeing infinitely better results than at the beginning, when I first started.

Well, not because we’re lazy; it’s more that we’re completely overwhelmed.
