Assertiveness-Getting What You Want

In the world today we are faced with many choices. We are all built with the instinct for fight or flight when faced with confrontation. Recently I ran into a situation where I was faced with a rude, nasty response to a birthday greeting I had sent to an acquaintance through Facebook. I hadn't realized the link to the free ebook I normally send to my Facebook friends on their birthday had been changed. The gentleman in question reacted by sending me a snarly note back chiding me for sending him marketing material in his birthday greeting.

The Animal Human Connection - A Brief Overview

For thousands of years dogs have provided people with protection, companionship and support. What we today recognize as the domestic dog became a part of human society when nomadic bands of hunter gatherers were roaming the Earth. There is evidence to suggest that these dogs, descended from the Grey Wolf were viewed as both working animals and as valued partners in surviving the tough environment that characterized the lives of these societies and today the dog has become part of the fabric of society and often a valued member of families across the globe.

Helping Children Cope With Illness and Death of Loved One

Children who have been allowed to participate in the care of loved one, including hospice care at end of life, are better prepared later in life when losses of any kind occur. Loss of a Pet For many children the first death they may witness or participate in, is the death of a pet. When I was researching for my book "I Lost My Best Friend Today" it was humbling to hear the stories. Many adults said they mou ed more over the death of their pet than the loss of their parents.

Confidence, Character and Critical Thinking

As parents our job is to teach our children how to be the person that will attract the kind of people they want to be around. As we empower them to respect and be kind to others, it will reflect on how they feel about themselves. When we teach them how to be a kind and responsible person we are really teaching them three things: Confidence, Character and Critical Thinking. Confidence: Confidence is the belief that you can do things well. There is an air of assurance and trust that others can see and are drawn to in relationships.

Elderly Care & Animal Companionship (EXPERT)

Are you or your loved ones getting older and becoming isolated? Perhaps the idea of an animal as a companion may be just the thing. An animal offers so much more than companionship, but having a friend nearby can prevent loneliness and other health conce s. One might be forgiven to think that the advent of the communication technologies that exist would get rid of the loneliness from this world. Especially since getting in touch with a loved one is as easy and as fast as a couple of mouse clicks or phone taps. Unfortunately, in many ways, this is not true.

Luck Or Life - When Bad Things Happen to Good People

Ernest Hemingway once said: "The world breaks everyone. and afterward, many are strong in the broken places." When we are going through adversity, it is not always possible to believe that everyone suffers loss and heartache. It feels and acts very personal when bad luck and rotten life experiences happen to good people. Our first response is " Why Me? " We may question whether we did something to deserve this punishment or trouble. We may feel resentment for others who are not suffering and question why trouble did not choose them.

Discipline by Dad - 5 Tips to Build Strong Relationship With Your Child

To many dads discipline means yelling, threatening or spanking when the behavior of the child is unacceptable. They may be confusing discipline, which means loving guidance and teaching, with punishment. Punishment is punitive and harsh. Their own fathers worked long hours and the mother did most of the parenting, sometimes with a threat of "just wait till your father comes home." Consequently males may have grown up without a strong caring father or in many cases, no father present at all. So they are not sure how to parent or how to get cooperation without punishing or yelling.
