Can any book become a bestseller?

Find joint venture (JV) partners with big mailing lists, slap an email message together, have all JV partners send it out on the same date and presto! You are a bestselling author. Garbage! That's exactly what the previous statement is. It's garbage. As someone who has been involved in dozens upon dozens of online book launches I have heard every description of what an online launch is and is not. Sadly, many people are completely in the dark when it comes to what creating and implementing a successful launch is all about.

It’s a journey that you have so much choice in. The two questions to ask are, “What are the choices you are making? Are they serving you and others?”

What’s your best route for publishing?

I belong to several online authors’ groups. I like to stay on top of what other authors are doing, what’s going on in the publishing world and what some of the main areas of conce are for authors. A topic that often comes up has to do with being published by a traditional publisher compared to self publishing. As with anything, both have pros and cons. It's important to know that many of the most famous authors started as self published authors. Whatever your opinion about self publishing compared to traditional publishing there are as many opinions as there are authors.

The 3 Biggest Fears That Stop Authors From Succeeding

Most people would never guess that authors have some very common and debilitating fears. The three top are: Fear their book won't sell. Fear someone will criticize their writing. Fear they only have one book inside of them. Are these valid fears? Any fear can be a valid fear. This may not be the question one needs to ask themselves. A better question is, "How do I get through the fear?"

Leave Memories of Appreciation

What would life be like if you could decide moment by moment your state of mind? What if you could have complete control over your response to any situation life holds for you? What if you could live in the space of gratitude and appreciation regardless of the economy, loss, change or uncertainty? Seem impossible? If not impossible, difficult at best? Living is a state of appreciation no matter what may seem unrealistic and unattainable to many people. For lots of people it is. Yet for others it is believable, doable and realistic. It is a way of life.

Authors: How to Effectively Use YouTube to Market Your books AND Position Your Expertise

I’ve had a YouTube channel for years. Until recently, I didn’t have a focused theme. I was all over the place uploading videos that addressed many topics. Whatever struck my fancy, I would turn on my camera or iPhone and presto! a video was created. Although some of my videos received thousands of views, the majority had under 100 views each. Not a good return on investment for the time it takes to shoot a video and upload it. The amount of work that goes into a video with 10 views compared to 10,000 views is the same.

Increase Your ROI By Clearly Identifying Your Avatar

We've all heard, "The more we know who our market is, the better." How true is this? In a word… extremely. After all, if you don't know who you're marketing to, you will likely throw a bunch of stuff on the wall, hoping something sticks. Recently, I hosted a live event in Portland. I was thrilled when we sold out over a month before the event. I couldn't have been more pleased with the caliber of those in attendance. They definitely fit my ideal avatar.

Does your office look and feel support your business intentions?

From 1994 through 2013 I worked out of my home. Like many homebased business owners, I prided myself on the fact that the walk from my bedroom to my office was a very short distance. This all changed when I moved my business out of my home to an office space a few miles from away. The greatest advantage to making this change is the clear separation of home and business. Another great benefit is having a nice space to host clients for VIP Days or intimate mastermind meetings.

Write Your Book by Creating the Right Routines

If you’re thinking of writing a book, one of the most beneficial things you can do (at least for most people) is have a writing routine. I’ve written several books, created countless information products and launched quite a few live trainings. All of this, and more, was accomplished by having routines and discipline while creating the “thing.”

Someday I’ll... get around to writing that book

How often have you said, “Today’s the day!” regarding something you are committed to changing. Yet, by day’s end you either didn’t do what you said you would do or you did something that directly sabotaged your success? This often happens with experts who swear up and down they are going to write a book. As with anything, whatever you want to happen, it will only occur if it is in the forefront of your thinking and you put actions behind the thoughts.

Is your branding memorable?

Imagine being so memorable the thought of you pops up when someone sees something tied to your brand. Not only do they think about you, but they can’t help smile. Maybe it’s a phrase that brings you to mind. Or a certain kind of animal. Or an activity. That’s some powerful branding. Such was the case recently when I was at a restaurant and saw a picture. I immediately thought of my colleague and friend, Brian Basilico. Brian is known as the Bacon Guy. When I see a blonde standard poodle I immediately think of Brian G. Johnson. He’s the poodle wrangler.

Commitment Equates to Visibility

Ask a room full of entrepreneurs what their greatest challenge is and, more times than not, the answer is, “Finding clients.” Actually, it’s not so much finding clients as it is finding the right clients. Yet, for many entrepreneurs, they seem to do all they can to avoid being found.

Turn your business (and speaking) around

It’s amazing when you cross your own invisible line from, “Ugh! I have to do this,” to “Wow! I get to do this!” Such is the case with running. Never, in my wildest dreams, did I think I would enjoy, let alone love, running. But I do. A LOT! So much in fact, I regularly participate in local 5k, 10k, 15k and 10 mile runs. The short races are in preparation for a full marathon I’m taking part in! Mind you, I’m not the fastest runner around. Truth be told, I don’t strive to be. However, I do strive to be the best I can be... for me. Running has resulted in many incredible benefits for me.

Ask most anyone who’s been online for any length of time if open rates on broadcast emails have gone down and the majority will give you a resounding YES! Defining success on your terms

What is success? Success in the truest sense is a very personal thing. It’s not uncommon to fall into the trap of letting others tell us what we must do to be successful or deciding for others what success should mean to them. Parents do this as do spouses. Friends do this as do bosses. Neighbors do this as do clergy.

You risk being viewed as a commodity if you do this....

I just finished reading a book filled with good information, but nothing significant stood out in the content. Actually, much of what I read I’ve read in countless other books. Truth be told, just about any Law of Attraction, inspirational and/or motivational writer could have put their name to it and it would be good. And therein lies the problem. It’s good, but not great. What would have made it great is for the author to have added in his unique personality. He could have told stories that are uniquely his. Stories that support points he made throughout the book.r

Why List Building Has Become an Uphill Climb

The heart of any online business is a responsive subscriber list. Without this, you are on an uphill climb to success. In the early days of online marketing, it took a lot less effort to build a subscriber list than it does today. It didn’t take much to get someone to say yes to a free offer. With very little competition for someone’s contact information, conversion rates were a lot higher in the mid- to late-nineties than they are today.r

Is 2015 really going to be different?

This is the time of year many people start thinking about setting goals for the coming year. Call it what you may, resolutions, intentions, outcomes, goals, it’s all the same. We set an intention to do something and more times than not, within a few days we give in, give up and say it’s just not worth it. Why is that? Why do we end one year, and begin the next with a specific outcome in mind and within a very short period of time go back to our old habit? Whether it be to lose weight, quit smoking, be more loving, increase revenues, or exercise more, it doesn’t take much for us to give up.r

To Make Money You Must Know Your Market

Regardless of how much or how little marketing knowledge you have, it is essential to always know who your market is and is not. It’s also important to accept that your marketing strategy should change as your business changes. And of course you must know your limitations in terms of budget, time, and resources. When I started my business in 1994, I dealt primarily with a corporate client base. Today I work primarily with solopreneurs and microbusinesses. Although the essence of how I market is strikingly similar to what it was in the nineties, the message is different.

Teleseminars - One of the Best Ways to Build Your Business and Your Revenues

Holding live workshops and seminars are a good way to build a business. However due to current economic trends, the traditional methods of holding and conducting workshops make it very difficult to execute and get participation. In addition, the costs involved in getting a venue, audio visual aids and providing refreshments for the participants make it quite expensive and there are many factors that could prevent the event from being successful and profitable. This explains why businesses are gradually moving towards teleseminars as a way of holding workshops and training sessions.

Teleseminars - Making money with them

In the last few days I have coached several new clients who were misled into believing the BS of getting rich quick on the Internet. I have heard a similar story from several people so I definitely lean toward believing that there are some so called “experts” telling people when they buy program X, Y or Z; go through a quick study class; put up a website they can sit back and watch the money pour in. They are being told they won’t have to do much of anything to make a ton of money. I can’t begin to tell you how frustrating this is for me.

Social Networking Etiquette...Why should I accept your invitation?

With the onslaught of Social Networking opportunities some people seem to think common sense and manners don’t apply. The reality is, Social Networks are like any other type of network. Most sane people wouldn’t walk up to someone at a business meeting, ask for their card and say, “Okay, now you are my friend and I am going to slam you with stupid phone calls, junk mail and other useless garbage.” More likely, they would introduce themselves, find a point of commonality and take it from there.

Regret or Passion? Which Will Be Yours?

I once attended a retreat on how to live with passion and fulfill one’s life’s work. The facilitator posed the question, “If money was not an issue, yet you had to work full-time, what would you do?” Answering this question was a turning point for me. Now - years later - I am doing much of what came up in my answer. How would you answer this question? Ask yourself, “What am I good at? What do my friends say I am good at? What do I enjoy and feel passionate about? What do I think is important?” The key to your happiness may well be held in the answers.

Look at many marketing campaigns and you might find one is pretty much the same as the other. There’s no major distinction between them. To achieve the outcomes you desire, and stand out in the consumer’s mind, you must put your stake in the ground through market position, meaning stand up for what you believe. Don’t be wishy-washy; stand tall and proud and be willing to do what needs to be done to let people know you exist.

Only people who are selling information about how to be an Internet Marketer are making money online! I can’t tell you the number of times I have heard this statement from someone who downloads a free report, buys an information product or enrolls in some type of a mentoring course. They get the information, try a few little things, get sidetracked or bored and then move on to something else claiming the information can’t work for them. It can only work for those who sell Internet Marketing information. STOP the insanity. This is not true.

One of the most fascinating lies we tell ourselves is if we believe something to be true, right or so, it must be. The fact is, much of what we try to convince ourselves and others as true is often a matter of judgment based on ego. If something is happening that we simply don’t approve of, then obviously it is wrong. Or so the thinking for many people goes.

It seems one of the greatest challenges for those new to the world of Internet Marketing is to know who to trust when it comes to who they are, what they know and have they truly accomplished that which they claim to be an expert at? Here are a few recommendations on how you can minimize getting sucked into the next “get rich quick” scheme and find those who are “the real deal”. 1. Listen to what your mom used to say…”If it seems too good to be true, it likely is.” 2. Running a business on the Internet is like running a brick and mortar business. You are running a business. Internet Marketing – Are You Using a Push/Pull System?

An important aspect of marketing has to do with what is referred to as Push/Pull marketing. Push/Pull marketing is exactly as it sounds. At times you are “pushing” information out to your market and at other times you are implementing strategies to “pull” consumers to you. Regardless of whether you are selling someone else’s products and services or your own, if you do not implement a complete marketing strategy that includes the Push/Pull philosophy, you are likely defeating your purpose.
