How to Blaze Your Own Path & Release Your Inner Prowess

Do you find yourself at times shaking your head at situations you encounter where you just want to say: “I thought we were out of the dark ages.” Well, it’s been one of those weeks for me. I just finished Gloria Steinem’s book: “Revolution from Within: a Book of Self-Esteem”. I ordered it after having seen a documentary on HBO on her, which totally reframed my opinion of the 2nd women’s movement in the 60’s. In full honesty, as much as the modern woman I am, I somewhat “disapproved” of the methods of this movement.

3 Ways Little Red Riding Hood Can Make You a Star at Work

How often have you heard that numbers don’t lie? This is typically a phrase that is thrown around during corporate meetings and more importantly, performance review time. So, if numbers don’t lie, let’s look at some important 2010 statistics relating to women in the workplace: Women represent 50.8% of the US population. Women comprised 47% of the total US labor force. Don't Be an Emotional Doormat with These Five Power-Maxing Tricks

Do you have a rubber or cloth rectangular object lying at your front door? You know that thing that is meant to collect all the dirt and dust from your shoes? Yes, the common term used is doormat. Most of us go out and get ones that are seasonal or tie into the décor of our house. And what would we do without them? Have dirt dragged all over our floors and into our house? If you’re like me – you’re like: No way, Jose! I’m a bit of neat freak (but do look the other way for the cat at times).

The Power of Playing Make-Believe

Do you remember back to your childhood days where you played the game of make-believe? Who did you most often wish you were? What special powers did you have? Did you practice a special voice? And, naturally, Ladies, did you dress up a certain way? Okay, I’ll let you in on my secret make-believe persona as a kid. I was Tabitha from Bewitched. I would dream that I could just twinkle (or crinkle in my case) my nose and lo and behold I created magic. Time just flew by during make-believe time with the end result being pure bliss.

Toss the Ruby Slippers - The Non-Fairytale Guide to Getting What You Want

Remember the delicious and riveting days of reading fairytales? Cinderella. Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs. Hansel & Gretel. The Wizard of Oz. These are all fairytales that have all shaped our roles and crafted views of standards in society. As kids, we lived for those stories. The stories created our dreams. The characters in the tales became our role models. I remember soaking up the words on the pages in the books and dreaming away. It wasn’t until I got older that I realized how much women especially are influenced by the fairytale symbolisms.

How to Leave Old Feminine Traditions in the Dust

A friend had forwarded me an article titled: The Good Wife’s Guide from Housekeeping Monthly, 13 May, 1955. Now I had heard about the article before, but quite frankly, didn’t really form an opinion about it. However, this time around when we went through the “tips” that were given to the ladies in the 1950’s on how to please their man, I got a tad furious. Listen to this: -Prepare yourself. Take 15 minutes to rest so you’ll be refreshed when he arrives. Touch up your make-up, put a ribbon in your hair and be fresh-looking. He has just been with a lot of work-weary people.r

Why Your Gut Always Knows Best

Just in case you’re thinking – no, I’m not referring to the gut as that part of your belly that hangs over your waistband after a few too many indulgences… I’m referring to the inner gut. What the heck is an inner gut you’re asking? Before I clarify, let’s see if any of the below statements resonate with you: I knew better. I had an inkling that I ignored. Something just didn’t feel right. I had an inner voice warn me. I ignored the feeling in my stomach. I felt like I had a sea of butterflies in my stomach and was thinking that I was imagining things.r

I bet the first thing that comes to your mind when hearing: “Embrace Narcissistic Pleasures and Inner Happiness!” is that being narcissistic is not a good trait and in no way, shape or form do you want to embrace narcissistic pleasures. In your mind, narcissism is excessive love or admiration of yourself. What if I told you that the dictionary also defines narcissism as the attribute of the human psyche characterized by admiration of oneself but within normal limits? Norm
