Avoid Common Food Additives for optimal wellness

Sodium nitrite used as a food additives in meat is toxic. When you eat it, nitrosamines are formed. These dangerous compounds are highly carcinogenic. During lab studies, researchers inject these compounds into lab mice when they want to give them cancer. Clearly, this is not something we should be consuming. Although you may be consuming less fat by eating turkey products instead of red meat, you are not necessarily reducing your cancer risk.

Accuracy of PSA screening for Prostate Cancer

Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is an enzyme produced in the prostate. For decades, men over age 50 have been recommended to have their blood level of PSA tested annually. If it’s higher than 4 ng/mL, they’re usually urged to have a biopsy or other evaluation. Recent research published at the journal of the National Cancer Institute indicated that the PSA test screenings are not an accurate test for prostate cancer. And the Stanford University urology expert who wrote the first paper supporting it back in 1987 now says “we must find a new cancer marker.”r

Butter Vs Margarine Controversy?

Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this product to get their money back. It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow coloring and sold it to people to use in place of butter. How do you like it? They have come out with some clever new flavourings. DO YOU KNOW...the difference between margarine and butter? both have the same amount of calories.

Should I take a mega dose of Vitamin C ?

There isn't much point of taking mega doses of Vitamin C and you might be harming yourself. A lot of the new info out says that more than 2,000mgs of Vitamin C could be harmful. I take 1,000mgs of C a day in divided doses because I have a connective tissue disorder, and I'm prone to scurvy-like symptoms - but I really think that if you get 5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables a day, most people are gonna come out way ahead....and in a pill, I would say 500 is more than plenty....that does seem to be the top end of what people should take - I've seen the data, its pretty convincing...

Deep Breathing for Stress Reduction

Deep breathing can be an important coping skill to learn. It may sound silly, but many people do not breathe properly. Natural breathing involves your diaphragm, a large muscle in your abdomen. When you breathe in, your belly should expand. When you breathe out, your belly should fall. Overtime, people forget how to breathe this way and instead use their chest and shoulders. This causes short and shallow breaths, which can increase stress and anxiety.r

Does the Increased consumption of soft drinks can cause CHD[Coronary Heart Disease]?

Previous studies have linked full-calorie sugarsweetened beverages (SSBs) with greater weight gain and an increased risk of type 2 diabetes and CHD in published articles in medical literature. Because diabetes is a major risk factor for CHD and SSB consumption has been associated with increased diabetes risk, it can be considered as an intermediate risk factor in the pathway betwee SSB intake and CHD risk. Increased consumption of soft drinks has been associated with coronary heart disease, obesity and diabetes.

Natural Approach to Sleep Apnea

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), 50 to 70 million adults suffer from chronic sleep disorders including sleep apnea. Sleep is essential to our ability to function on a regular basis. It is when our bodies repair, rest and rejuvenate. We all have a pre determined amount of required sleep. On average, that is about 7 hours, but this can be different for everyone. As we age, we actually require more sleep, but we seem to sleep less. If we consistently get less sleep than we need, our bodies go into sleep debt.

Avoid High Fructose Corn Syrup to avoid Diabetes and Obesity

High-fructose corn syrup is a common sweetener that is used in soft drinks, breakfast cereals, cookies, snacks and many other baked goods. Like sucrose (table sugar), high-fructose corn syrup is made up of a combination of the sugars fructose and glucose. The main difference is that high-fructose corn syrup is processed to change the ratio of fructose and glucose. Why does that matter? Higher levels of fructose can make high-fructose corn syrup sweeter than sugar.

medicatio Monitoring in children

There have been numerous challenges to studying drugs in children involving ethical, scientific, and commercial considerations. Medication monitoring in children is a great challenge. There are extra protections for children enrolled in clinical trials because they cannot give consent and there must be compelling reasons why a trial should be conducted in the pediatric population. Pediatric trials are in general more difficult to carry out because you must have special facilities, laboratory and radiological services, and staff who know how to work with children and their families.

What is the best Natural Sweetner

What is the best Natural Sweetener? Stevia.. I've written a number of times about my favorite sweetener, stevia. It has no calories, it tastes great, and it doesn't raise your blood sugar. Nor does it come with the potential side effects (like cancer and neurological disorders) of artificial sweeteners. It seems like everything we use to sweeten food causes health problems. But what about the naturally sweet herb - stevia? Why aren't more manufacturers using stevia instead of sugar, fructose, aspartame, or high fructose corn syrup? Could it be that stevia costs too much?

A lecturer, when explaining stress management to an audience, raised a glass of water and asked, "how heavy is this glass of water? " Answers called out ranged from 20g to 500g. The lecturer replied, "The absolute weight doesn't matter. It depends on how long you try to hold it. "If I hold it for a minute, that's not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my right arm. If I hold it for a day, you'll have to call an ambulance. In each case, it's the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes. "

How to avoid the side effects of using anti inflammatory drugs like cortisone?

Systemic side effects occur as a result of a small amount of the cortisone entering the bloodstream and affecting your entire body, not just the location where the cortisone was given. Systemic side effects of a local injection of cortisone are rare and usually minor. Unlike taking oral steroids, or having cortisone injected directly into the bloodstream, only a small amount of a local injection is absorbed by the body. And since the body actually produces cortisone naturally, most people do not experience systemic effects. Those who do may experience: Elevated Blood Sugarr

The connection betwee Endorphins, Serotonin and Dopamine and food cravings

Our bodies produce thousands of chemicals that control impulses necessary for everyday function and sensory navigation. Endorphins, a multi-functional chemical, are emitted to counteract and deal with sensations by transmitting electrical impulses through the body to the nervous system. One of their duties is to help combat pain, much in the same way as morphine or codeine does. Endorphins are also responsible for producing the euphoric feeling one usually experiences after sex, or after an intense work out (often referred to as “runners-high”).
