The popular “The Mozart Effect” is an inclusive term signifying the transformational power of music in health, education and well being. It represents the general use of music to reduce stress, depression, anxiety, activate the body and improve memory and awareness. The original studies were focused on only Mozart’s music and its effect on many things. Extra, Extra, Read All About It! Ten Million Children on Drugs!

Although this headline will not appear in The New York Times or The Wall Street Jou al maybe it should. The chances of a child being addicted to drugs to alter their moods in adulthood increase exponentially if they are prescribed medication by a psychiatrist or doctor at an early age. Parents run to the prescription counter at the first sign of “abnormal behavior” with the hope that a pill is the answer. The parents reasoning is that “it was recommended by a teacher, family physician or a psychiatrist; they must know what they are doing”.

And the Beat Goes On

Know of anyone that would spend Valentine’s Day with young strangers, hugging each one, giving them $20 in a card and a box of See’s candy? He was a 19 year old “tough” guy who had a giant, loving heart. This happened at a facility for children with emotional problems who had no family environment in which to live and were cared for by the State of Nevada. To understand this unusual event you need to know more of the story.

If Florence Nightingale Wrote the Book: How Would Our Headlines Look?

Ever since 1894, when the first book written on baby care by Dr. Luther Emmett Holt, “The Care and Feeding of Children” was published, doctors, educators and mothers were told that rapid response to crying babies was detrimental and would inevitably result in the “spoiling of our children”. I suspect a woman such as Florence Nightingale would have cringed at the thought. As our nation became more and more addicted to logic and reason, this advice was taken as a Sacred Truth even though it went against our nature as loving parents.

An Extraordinary Dimension

The Karate Chop and the Gamut points have always intrigued me. One interesting fact about the psychological reversal point (Si 3), is that in Traditional Chinese Medicine it is the opening point for the most important of the Eight Extraordinary Vessels; the Du Mai. The Gamut spot (Tw 3) is not far from another point (Tw 5), which is the opening point of the Yang Wei Mai. Extraordinary Vessels run outside the body and assist with all excess and deficiencies which is the goal of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

The Sweetness of the Leaving

Many years ago, I fell in love with the movie “Pay It Forward” and the theme song “Calling all Angels” by K.D. Lang which was also the theme song of the TV show “Beauty and the Beast”. I really couldn’t understand the meaning of the words at first and was sure I heard the words wrong. As I listened to the song over and over, I discovered that the song explains that the reason we agree to all this suffering is “the sweetness of the leaving”. Knowing in my heart that the most beautiful part of our life will be “crossing over”, I started to understand it.
