Aspects of Self Improvement

There are many ways to improve yourself but in order for improvements to be made it will always be necessary to take stock of your current situation. For some people the concept will be a process of continually reading other people's advice then acting on what has been read. For others it will be more of a question of identifying a particular area of need.

Ageism and other problems in the Workplace

Occupational Psychologist, Stephen Howarth, joined Vince to discuss the implications of the working life in the UK. I asked Stephen whether he felt the management teams of many companies haven't really looked too deeply at the people who work for them. Stephen went to University to develop his ideas of helping people including work in mental institutions and he was repulsed by what he learnt during his studies.

How The Discipline from Martial Arts Can Develop Our Lives

Jim Bouchard is a motivational speaker in the USA and he, like myself, has a background in Martial Arts. Now that I no longer practice the physical side of the Martial Arts the mental aspects come ever more into my life. Jim had sent me notification of his book and then he also sent me a copy to read.He is a 5th Dan and the learning of life skills via the Martial Arts is often under-valued.

Farewell to Margaret-a time to reflect

Sadly, my sister Margaret died on Monday 13th May 2013. I didn't want to write this into my blog when it happened but I thought about it and then I felt it was right to put the following.

The True Value of Tourism

Travelling is good for the soul because you learn about yourself and aspects of history. The long flights to other continents give us time to be thankful for what we have and who we are. It also gives a time to reflect on the skills of others and how others look after your well-being.

Getting Over the Flu

I'm not too sure whether this is really a Health or a Fitness article but my own recent bout of flu prompted me to write this article. I have kept myself fit all my life and the habit started in my early school days when I joined the school Cross Country team. I was never the best runner but I had to run every day to be good enough for the team. The habit stayed with me all my life and I twigged early on to the fact that running is one common denominator to most sports.

The News is Too Bad for Children to Watch on TV

The early evening TV used to have a watershed called the Kiddies Truce on BBC TV. Children were expected to go to bed a lot earlier. Those days will never come back but there are serious issues to discuss about the subject material to which children are now being exposed from an early age. Psychologist, Steve Ashley, discussed with me just how the material children are watching and listening to might be affecting them in ways which will not become apparent until they become older.

Important Things in Life we don't always learn at an early age.

Firstly, we are not really educated into looking properly at the food we eat. There are vested interests in us eating the wrong foods. Look at the medical giants who make fortunes because we get ill. Decide to look at the foods that will help you maintain the best life. I recommend looking at the Gracie Diet. I have no vested interest and only wish others to feel healthy and enjoy their lives. I use the Gracie principles but do not have it as a dogma. I take the general advice and live a normal life around this lifestyle.

Lighten Up!

I have long believed in the power of the human mind to make the human body feel better and more relaxed. Very often in my radio broadcasting I have felt there was an overload in serious news. One guest on a podcast interview, Jim Bouchard, even said he believed that too much attention to the news can depress people. I believe he had that one spot on. It can be a fine line but it is possible to develop an atmosphere of light-hearted comment whilst discussing serious topics and I also like to use my imagination to see how other people will react to the lines I am developing.

"The possible effect of the collapse of the Euro on ex-pats living in Spain

Is there such a beast as an expert on the state of the Euro and the Eurozone? Every day another expert arrives on the TV screen to warble his or her expertise as to what is really going on in the turbulent world of inte ational finance. I am not an expert but I am worried by what is going on.

She talks about the huge transition involved in changing from one school to the next. She develops the theme through developing the power to think positively rather than negatively. She sees the really critical ages are from 9 to 12 years of age. We developed our discussion to address the serious nature of depression often caused by low self-esteem.One student in particular had difficulty in focusing and sometimes a teacher has to spot the necessary strategy to help the individual.

Free Interesting Podcasts on Serious Issues

Each week whilst working with Onda Cero, one of Spain's national broadcasters, I had a forum called Serious Issues when my guest was psychologist, Steve Ashley. I found myself very often at a very different point of view when discussing issues with Steve and found our discussions most stimulating. I have a page of very interesting podcasts which might be very valuable for our readers. Here is the link for our discussions..http://www.vincetracy.com/SeriousIssues.html Track 1. Steve joined me to discuss new initiates in the UK to protect children and give them back their childhood

Common Sense

Whilst it's always good to have the opinions of professional people it is also a good idea to have the opinions of ordinary `people. I think it's also very healthy to take current issues and events and discuss them sensibly over the airwaves. I also think it's good to have a bit of music to break up the serious material. In this podcast Neil's team has just won the FA Cup in Britain. This is of great importance to many fans.

Radio Conversations

I believe that it's very healthy to listen to interesting conversations on the radio. On the one side it might be somebody with a totally different point of view to your own or it could be another person reinforcing your own views. From time to time it will be a topic that is close to your own situation and the views being aired might make you very cross.

The Recession and the Expats in Spain

The recession is now over two years old and I met a friend in the radio station who was then running a restaurant. He is also a Music Hall buff and he entertained his restaurant guests across the alley from the restaurant in a small Music Hall. Barry Britten, my friend, had a thriving business until the recession when lots of British tourists decided not to come to Benidorm. Eventually, decisions had to be made to close the restaurant. I asked Barry if he had anyone he blames for the recession.r

Manipulation by our Televisions

I remember Boy George's appearance on Top of the Pops. Like many others I sat and watched in disbelief. Was this a boy or was this a girl? It was a pivotal moment for transvestites and cross-dressers as the BBC had opened the floodgates and just about everyone has entered the TV screens ever since. Boy George was certainly a very good singer but his subsequent life has opened many questions in my mind and none greater than who decides on the censorship of what we see or don't see on the TV.

Aspects of Hypnotherapy/Psychotherapy and Love Addiction

I am directing you to a podcast I made with Counsellor Annie Bennett. She had been working in the field of psychotherapy and counselling since 1994, when she trained and worked for Cruse Bereavement Care in North Surrey, England. She later trained for Surrey Alcohol and Drug Misuse and continued to work with them until spending time as a visiting therapist in the United States at The Meadows treatment centre for trauma and addiction. She was currently in private practice at Harley Street and I am running regular gender-specific love addiction workshops from January 2008.

The Power of the Podcast

When I was young I wanted nothing more than to become a radio disc jockey. I loved listening to the chat and the wit and the banter of the personality disc-jockeys who worked on the likes of Radio Caroline and Radio Luxembourg. The BBC executives knew the pirates were giving the public what it needed and what it wanted. Desperate measures were needed to get them off the airwaves so what better way than to convince the Government of the day that they should be outlawed and replaced by BBC local radio stations?

Inspirational People

Very often we come to the end of passages in our lives. It might be a job and in my case one example has been when a radio station has closed. We were leaving our listeners and there was a sense of bereavement. I certainly felt anger as I felt I knew who had caused the problems. I certainly felt the annoyance that if another person had done what the job asked of that person then the station might not have closed. I had also put lots of effort into making contacts around the world of people I find inspirational.

A Look at Life

I have a weekly chat with Merseyside singer/songwriter, Don Woods. I make a podcast which is then updated to my website. This week Don and I talked about the way figures are being bandied about and how billions and trillions don’t really help the average punter.

UK Riots 2011

I was looking at the pictures of the riots in the UK and remembering the early 1980s in Liverpool when we had our riots. The picture of London burning was bad enough but having seen Birmingham, Bristol and Liverpool endure these copycat riots and other parts of London devastated by marauding gangs I thought back to my teaching days.
