As a child of divorce and after having taught severely emotionally disturbed children for many years I came to the law with a bias to act only in the best interest of children. I was really horrified to see how our adversarial system destroys families and divorcing parents ability to effectively co-parent after the legal battle was over. After being in private practice for 8 years I walked away in disgust, vowing to never take another adversarial case again and I haven't. I have done over 300 divorce mediations and every single one has come to an agreement, in one day or less so I know mediation works. The average divorce case in California, when both sides have lawyers is $20,000 EACH! That is totally unnecessary and anyone thinking of getting a divorce really ought to look at mediation. Your children will thank you for having a peaceful divorce.
