When we think of Army training we usually think of physical activity, push-ups, sit-ups and lots of running. The underlying and most important driving force behind the United States Army are the seven Army Core Values. The Army Values are loyalty, duty, respect, selfless-service, honor, integrity and personal courage. Although I am retired as a Lieutenant Colonel, I still carry the Army Values wallet sized card with me. All seven values are transferable to civilian life and make us better people. Here is a good translation of the Army core values for civilians.

My grandmother, who passed away at the age of 102, came to visit me at the young age of 90. I remember distinctly walking with her into a building with several flights of stairs. As we approach the stairs, she looks at me with a grin and says, “I’ll race you!” and she takes off up the stairs. I am not expecting all of us to be that agile at the age of 90 if we make it to that age. Without knowing it, my grandmother was revving up her metabolism and taking care of some cardio. Here are five ways to rev up your metabolism:

"I don't know what to eat. I do not have the time to eat healthy. I'm gaining weight. My cholesterol is high. I'm taking Lipitor. My back aches. I'm overweight. My blood pressure is too high. I'm always tired. Can't sleep at night. Can you help?" Does this sound like someone you know? A major part of the solution is to eat lean and clean. Here's how. To eat lean and clean you are eating predominantly and, if possible, exclusively unprocessed foods and you are predominantly eating plant-based products. That is the primary source of nutrients and the best source of healthy eating.

"Take care of our children and show them the way.” We live in a culture of sedentary living and overeating. Our children are watching, listening and learning about life and how to live from us adults, their leaders. They are not interested in what we have to say. They are carefully watching how we live. Schools, parents and local, state and federal governments all have a leadership role when it comes to educating our children and keeping them physically fit. What kind of message are they sending our kids?

The U.S. Army is in the business of preparing our soldiers of military operations to include combat. Transitioning this approach into civilian life with the purpose of maintaining health works just as well. A simple military-style fitness test will assess your muscle endurance, cardio and strength. All it takes are three very basic activities, push-ups, crunches or sit-ups and a one-mile run/walk. Use the results as a benchmark. You need the benchmark in order to establish reasonable, attainable goals to shoot for every four weeks of testing.

Top Five Exercises for Hips, Thighs and Butt by Lt. Col. Bob Weinstein, USAR-Ret. Here are five great exercises to tone and firm up the hips, thighs and butt. Most of these exercises can even be performed within the confines of a work cubicle. Imagine calling a brief time out in your cubicle “jungle” with all heads popping up and then performing a squat or some other exercise together. This may very well be as entertaining as Meerkat Manor on Animal Planet. Add some music and MTV will be calling.

How to get started

Speaker Topics as Keynotes and Workshops

The Eight Universal Laws of Getting and Staying in Shape.

Over 3,000 Americans die of heart disease, cancer and stroke. Over eighty
percent of these deaths are lifestyle related. Your organization will make
sure that their employees do not become a lifestyle-related casualty of this
war on fighting disease and maintaining good health.

Six Secrets to Permanent Weight Loss

50 % of Americans are overweight, 33% are obese, and as many as 40% of women
and 25% of men are trying to lose weight at any given time. We have a
serious crisis of overeating and leading a sedentary lifestyle. This topic
is designed to equip the audience with the necessary strategic and tactical
knowledge to conquer these health issues.

Wellness Program Strategy in Your Place of Business

According to the Centers for Disease Control, more than 75% of employer
health care costs and productivity losses are related to employee lifestyle
choices. Other studies have revealed that about 20% are responsible for 80%
of the costs. You will be given the necessary tools to immediately implement
a cost effective wellness program that significantly improves the health and
performance of your employees.

How to Combat Childhood Obesity

The percentage of our youth who are overweight has tripled since the early
1970's. Col. Weinstein addresses the six "secrets" to combating the youth
health crisis. We are killing our children and preparing them to have
serious health issues early in life. You will be pointed in the right
direction to guide and inspire our youth to lead healthy and happy lives.

Give-up vs. Take-charge Talk

Getting back on track with performance based living is a matter of how we
think. You will learn how to identify and eliminate what Col. Weinstein
calls give-up talk and replace it with take-charge talk when it comes to
healthy living.

Six Ways to Put the Action Back into the Action Plan

A hurricane Wilma inspired topic that is excellent as keynote and workshop.
Plans for action are devised and prepared for our personal and professional
lives everyday. Few are actually implemented. Get your marching orders to
turn plans into action.

Get Back Up and Catch Your Second Wind!

We've all heard the expressio "Catch your second wind!" Unfortunately, the
vast majority of people don't even know what the second wind feels like and
there is a reason for this. Ninety percent usually give-up as soon as the
first difficulties or challenges occur. Col. Weinstein will give you those
insights necessary to take you and your worthy goals into the realm of the
second wind and keep up that momentum.

Values and Character Matter Most

There is no exception. Values and character do matter most and are
foundational for sound relationships in the business world and in our family
lives. Whether you are interested in furthering your career, building
high-performance teams or showing our youth or adults the way to lead a
truly values-based life, this is the topic for you and your organization.
