Originally from Pennsylvania, I was raised in a small town where farms were more common than streetlamps. This is a great place to grow up, of course I didn’t think so at the time! I had an ideal childhood, two terrific parents that taught me how to be kind, polite, respectful, and a hard worker. I also had two sisters (still do!) that I got along with quite well, believe it or not.
For me, staying in that small town would have been torture, so I fled (hitchhiked, really) to Florida after leaving college in Harrisburg. Life in the sunshine state was no picnic, and my computer skills didn’t get me a job right away. I realized quickly life was harder in the “real world”. I finally settled down, got married, and had a terrific son. Everything is going great, right? Not really…
Fast forward to 2006, I’m now divorced and wondering how to find true happiness – if that’s even possible! I started reading self-help books, probably Anthony Robbins book “Awaken the Giant Within” first of all because it was the only one I owned at the time (I now have a nicely stocked library). Slowly I absorbed enough from all of the books to realize I had to change – which meant taking massive action! Happiness for me is a journey, not a destination, and I’m still headed in the direction that will ultimately lead me to help thousands of others find happiness as well. That is the reaso I’m here at SelfGrowth.com, and within the next year you will probably hear much more from me. If you get a chance, stop by and say hello! I will gladly do the same. Are you one those people that are almost always happy, no matter what is happening in your life? Well me neither, but I’ve known a few people like that in my life and it never ceases to amaze me at their natural ability to maintain a smile every day. A friend of mine is like that, and I have to ...

Find Happiness - By Bringing the Pain
Good day, I would like to talk today about something I read recently conce ing happiness, or better still, the lack of it. Normally when we think of pursuing happiness it’s within the context of striving for something positive in life, such as a goal, an ideal, a behavior, or something tangible that we want. How about the opposite end of the spectrum? Can we make our lives happier by moving away from the things we despise? Since that is the topic of my article, the answer is a resounding “YES”.

The Power of Habits
I was thinking about how our habits seem to shape our lives, whether it's the habit of getting up on time (or late) every day, the habit of being healthy and eating right, or habits like getting really ticked off when someone cuts you off in traffic. Do you have bad habits? I guess we all ...

Giving Back Will Boost Your Happiness
Today's topic is giving back - not only to make ourselves feel better, because it's the right thing to do, or because your church says you should. Those are all valid reasons to give back - but in my mind another one is often overlooked. I feel that many people work very hard at making money, ...

Do You Suffer From Social Anxiety Disorder
Do you know anyone who suffers from social anxiety disorder? If you aren’t sure what it is, it’s a fear or apprehension of being around other people. This can be a debilitating thing for some folks, and even cause outright panic attacks in others. Mostly it causes people to become solitary and avoid others nearly to the point of being hermits, which is a frightening situation for them indeed.

Think Yourself into Future Happiness
