Gene’s life experiences began on a small farm (yeah, a long time ago…) in the fertile Platte River valley of central Nebraska. His wanderings have taken him through college, the military, two major corporations and into the field of instruction in both the private and public sector. For the past twenty-five plus years, he has devoted much of his time to the study and understanding of the nature (and peculiarities) of mankind and its place and purpose in the universe.
In 2002, Gene established NuPathz.com ( http://www.nupathz.com/ ) for the primary purpose of helping people enrich their lives simply by modifying their thought processes. The organization encourages personal growth through a better understanding of those factors that have contributed to each individual’s present beliefs and life style, and promotes positive questioning of the “truths” that provide the basis for each of our actions.
The NuPathz approach to the self-help process could be considered somewhat unique in that it offers insights into all three of the main influences in our lives – our genetic and environmental influences, our spiritual or religious beliefs and our innate animal instincts for survival and procreation. Because Gene feels strongly that many of us tend to take our lives and the self improvement process far too seriously, he makes liberal use of humor not only in his articles and books but also throughout the NuPathz site. As a result, one can find features ranging from helpful suggestions to combat guilt or a tendency to become angry to a large collection of humorous quotes and bumper stickers as part of an even larger collection of “odds and ends” gleaned from Gene’s weblog.
When once asked about his personal motivations for creating the NuPathz.com web site, Gene replied, “You know, I was fortunate several years ago, to have enough curiosity to start researching to see if I could find out if there wasn’t something I could do to make some changes in my life – to help make things better for myself and my family. With the help of some great authors and other special people in my life, I was finally able to turn my old ship around and start sailing in a better direction. All I’m trying to do now is pass along some of the things I’ve learned. This probably sounds corny as all heck, but I figure if I can make just one person’s life a little easier and a little more fun then I’ve done my job. I’ve accomplished probably one of the main things I was put on this earth to do. You can’t ask for any more than that.”
Gene is presently enjoying a semi-retired lifestyle with his bride, Loy, two dogs, five cats and one obnoxious African Grey parrot in the Ozarks of southern Missouri.

Budgeting Made Easy
Well, dang! From what I’ve heard and read, it looks like we’ve reached an all-time world-class new record in the amount of personal debt on the books. Now it’s probably not quite as bad as we’ve been led to believe, however many of us have managed to tromp further than we should have into the financial swamp. How well we’ll be able to find our way back out to dry ground will depend on our knowing just where the heck we are in the first place.

30 Ways to be a Butt-Head Boss
1. Trust no one. Not your superiors and not your employees. Especially not your employees. They’re probably out to get you anyway. 2. Believe that all of your people are lazy, good-for-nothing slackers. Remind them of that frequently. 3. Get mad and shout a lot. This will reinforce to your “workers” that you mean business. 4. Never grant special favors. Having babies, being sick, taking time off to go to weddings, funerals or 50th anniversaries are just ways to get out of work. Don’t let them get away with it. 5. Try not to make decisions.

How Stupid Can People Be?
“I can’t believe she did that!” “What the hell is he thinking?” “Any idiot would have better sense than that!” “Are they all taking dumb pills?” “What’s the matter with these people?” “Why am I working with a bunch of morons?” “He doesn’t have the sense God gave a goose!” Do any of these phrases sound familiar? Of course they do. They’re words we hear – or even use – almost every day. At times it looks like the world is being overtaken by idiots and to top it off, they’re all reproducing!

It’s Good to be Goofy
To paraphrase a saying my mother liked to use occasionally, “The whole world is goofy – except you and me. And sometimes I’m not too sure about you!” Rest assured that no matter who we are or what we do, there is at least a handful of people somewhere in this world who are convinced that we’re not rowing with both oars in the water. If you’ve been following along with some of the other blogs, you know that this is absolutely normal.

Who me? Change? No way!
At this point in my education at the University of Earth, I’m pretty well convinced that our ability to experience and enjoy life hinges on the type of mental programming that we’ve each managed to accomplish over the past several years. The kinds of information that we’ve crammed into our subconscious and now perceive as “facts”. The information that leads us to think and believe – and act - as we do today. Yeah, I know. There’s that danged “programming” thing again.

So What is Success Anyway?
Well I’ll tell you what it’s not. Even though many of us like to periodically visit our own personal Fantasyland complete with its mansions, servants, fancy cars and trips to exotic places (check under the heading of “What I Would Do if I Won the Lottery”) most of us over the age of twelve with any experience under our belts are realistic enough to recognize our Fantasyland for what it is. A fun place to visit but one sorely lacking in personal fulfillment. Unfortunately, there are many in our society who have bought into the concept that equates “success” with big money.

I Have a Headache!
Really. Not a great big skull-splitting headache. Just one of those little low-pressure guys. And I know why. It’s because I’ve been thinking too much. I really need to try to cut back on that. Actually, my headache is not the result of just thinking – it’s due more to what I’ve been thinking about. I can normally go for months and months and months without any perceptible twinge of intracranial discomfort. No problems at all. Well unless I decide to chance it and watch more than one reality show in a week. Then I’ll notice a bit of distress.

Feudin’ and Fussin’ and A-Fightin’
There are probably at least 17 gazillion reasons why folks get into arguments. Unfortunately none of them are very valid. Here’s what I mean. Let’s take a look at the base word first. My super-duper dictionary defines “argue” as: “To present reasons for or against a thing”. OK, so the word “thing” leaves a little to be desired but I can translate that to mean an opinion or concept. No problem.

11 Steps Toward a Happier You
First the good news. There’s a really, really good chance that we all can do things – make a few changes in our thinking and in our lives – to help us become a happier person. The realistic side of this though, is that some of us probably have the ability and even the opportunity, to be happier than others. Let’s start with a simple definition of happiness: “A feeling of contentedness, delight, enjoyment or satisfaction”. One more… “a state of well-being characterized by emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy”. Can you see the problem here?

Positive Affirmations
Never used ‘em. Not likely to start now. OK, so I just lied a little bit. (Is that anything like being a little bit pregnant?) I really didn’t mean to. (Hmmm, that comment could be applicable to the pregnant thing too but actually I was referring to my lying.) I guess the one positive affirmation that I commonly use is not so much a phrase that I repeat or think about periodically throughout the day – it’s more like an answer to a question. The question? “How ya doin’?” My answer will likely be “Super!

LOOK FOR THE POSITIVES
Our lives are overflowing with negative information from the newspapers, magazines, television and radio. Nations are at war, thousands are dying of starvation and hundreds are killed by natural disasters. There is no avoiding or ignoring the facts. We even receive negativity from our own families and friends every single day. How we deal with this information is up to us. One, we can absorb it all and allow it to negatively dominate our thoughts, emotions, attitudes and our day-to-day lives.

This Just Ain’t Good!
“Nope, this just ain’t good!” How many times in our lives have we had those or similar words bouncing around inside our skulls? Yeah, I’ve lost count, too! There are usually only a few reasons these annoying words show up. Occasionally, it’ll be when we just run smack-dab into an “Oh Sh--!” situation. You know what I mean.

Favorite Quotes & Thoughts from Gene Simmons
As a person thinketh, so are they. – James Allen
There is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened. - Douglas Adams
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. – Herm Albright
No matter where you go… there you are. – Buckaroo Banzai
Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it. - The Buddha
The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reasons for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of ete ity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries to comprehend a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity. - Albert Einstein
Live every day as though it is your last. Who knows? It might be! – Alexander King
Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be. – Abraham Lincoln
