We have three major threats facing our economy:
1. Benefits - incredible numbers of boomers will hit the system, if not for social security then for medicaid. These numbers have never been seen before and many are unhealthy increasing taxes and health insurance costs.
2. Security - we are in two foreign campaigns. Whether you agree or disagree, they are expensive and will cost over a trillion in the next decade. It costs trillions to go to war, especially when we have such great and expensive toys.
3. Debt - our country has to pay interest on the debt. Foreign governments are stepping in. We just bailed out subprime people so there goes more debt. The foreign governments and investors do not want to be paid back in dollars so they make us pay them back in Euros which compounds the interest. You almost can't blame them as they don't know what the dollar will be worth by the time the debt is paid.
If you think tax brackets are not going up because all the politiciains make that claim go back and read 1-3 above again.
There are 30, count that again, 30 enormous failures in most pension systems. You cannot afford to go to work and think everything is on auto-pilot and will protect you. Just one of these failures could be robbing your final pension dollars blind.
