- WRITING-My passion is writing. It is a long standing interest, but I was able to really develop it during my lengthy career as a senior human resources executive.
- EMPLOYEE RELATIONS-My employee relations work included conducting many one on one interviews,counseling, listening, advising, calming people's anxieties,arranging special attention for those requiring it,helping people to rationally and calmly understand how & what steps they could take to resolve upsetting issues with their spouses (infidelity,abuse, alcohol, drugs, etc), children (drugs, drinking, unwanted pregnancies,failing in school etc),fellow employees (hostility, verbal abuse, bullying, sexual harassment, etc) and bosses (unfai ess, harshness & hostility, discriminatory behavior,uncaring, unlistening, favoritism, unreasonable expectations, harassment, etc). Such issues , although personal in nature, if allowed to fester & go unattended, created huge productivity drops and poor customer service. Employees with these personal issues dominating & clouding their minds and emotions, just needed someone to listen to their stories and to offer some guidance as to what options re courses of action were available to them.
- LABOUR RELATIONS-During the period of 1964 to 1980,I was responsible for Labour Relations for two different company locations. This included conducting negotiations with several different unions to establish new collective bargaining agreements (CBAs),as each contract expired. Once new contracts were successfully put in place, my job was to ensure that both the unions and the company faithfully abided by the terms & requirements of the contracts. This included holding grievance meetings with shop stewards & the union business agents, to deal with issues as & when circumstances required.
- H.R.ADMINISTRATION -Other administrative duties included wage & salary admin; health, morale and welfare (benefits admin); performance evaluations; corrective and disciplinary actions when required; retirement counseling for those due to retire in the following 12-24 months.
- TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT-My role also included developing and leading training programs for management and non-management employees.......customer service standards, communcations skills, leadership skills, human rights legislation (discrimination and harassment), self-esteem and self-confidence. This required expert knowledge /understanding & the ability to make effective presentions, as well as the capacity to produce effective written communications.
- PUBLICATION- created, wrote & published a national employee news magazine for more than 40,000 employees (in both French and English).This assignment lasted for ten years & allowed me to hone my writing and editing skills even further.
- H.R. EXCELLENCE -In 1999, I received the company's National Award for Excellence in Human Resources Leadership.
- WRITING & EDITING BUSINESS-I now own and operate a writing & editing website business,with clients from 12 different countries (www.jjwritesmith.com) but mainly the USA & Canada.
- NEWSLETTER-I write a newsletter for an employee benefits company, as well as act as that company's H.R. Consultant
- TRAINING MANUALS-I edit training manuals for a realty company

- PERSONAL BLOG-I have recently started my own blog (http://wwwjerrysjournal.blogspot.com) focusing primarily (but not exclusively) on relationships, and the personal power within each of us to DO, BE, HAVE whatever we decide we want.

- I have published some poetry and have won awards for it.
- I write a lot of poetry for my own special relationship,as well as a lot of "special occasion" poems (romances, eulogies, anniversaries, holidays, etc) on request from customers.
- RELATIONSHIPS-I am currently working on an e-book on "Relationships" of all kinds.
I love to write and / or speak on the areas of my special interests and look forward to doing so beyond my prior corporate responsibilities.

In this way,the leader regularly gets the job done on time and to a consistently high standard, thru this well balanced team.
Everyone goes home at the end of each business day feeling a high degree of job satisfaction, customers are well satisfied and the company prospers.
Dwelling on weaknesses (areas for improvement) does not render a service to anyone. Too many "leaders" do not understand or accept this and are left to wonder why they are not realizing the achievements of leaders who "get it".
