6:00 A.M. Your alarm is ringing in your ear. You hit the snooze button but there it is again, screaming in your ear. You have one hour to get ready and leave for work. But the warm, toasty covers seem to be confining you to your bed. The timer on the coffee maker has switched on and the aroma of that cup of comfort slowly arouses you as you make your way to the kitchen. After pouring a little coconut cream into the steamy cup, you warm your hands around the outside of the mug, take a sip, and make your way to the desk to find out what today's workout will be. There are just three days left until you complete the Jinifit program and you can't wait. Incredibly, you're 30 pounds lighter, you're sleeping better, your sex life is, well, not what it used to be (in the best possible way), and you're annoyed that you have nothing to wear today because all the clothes in your closet keep falling off. How, you ask, is this possible?

Jinifit is a unique hybrid system of exercise, anti-aging nutrition, and self-motivation that has resulted in many transformed lives. While many of her colleagues in the industry (she is based in Los Angeles) consider themselves to be actors first, and trainers…to make ends meet; being a fitness specialist means, for Jini, being a 20 year veteran of the health and fitness industry, holding a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology as well as the most prestigious certification in the industry (CSCS-Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA-National Strength and Conditioning Association), and enhancing her qualifications by becoming certified in Functional Movement Screening (a way of identifying and correcting physical imbalances and weaknesses that can lead to injury). Drawing from Pilates to power lifting, this innovative approach can take the average exerciser and, utilizing the body’s own hormonal response to exercise; make them lean for life.

Acting as the body's "messengers," hormones (of which there are many types) also greatly influence how the body reacts to foods it eats. This is the primary focus of the dietary component of the program. A s a certified nutrition consultant Jini educates clients on how to make the best daily food choices in order to illicit the desired hormonal response. She has learned through experience that the synergistic effect of combining the right exercise with the right dietary habits yields incredible results. Having worked as a Health Educator for a professional line of nutritional supplements, Jini has helped numerous clients achieve the lean body they’ve always wanted using the balanced, hormonal approach to eating which has been for many, the missing link to their success.
"Discipline leads to self-confidence and self-respect." Believing in designing one's life; freely, and without restrictions; looking forward to a life of possibilities rather than the limitations of the past, Jini has developed a unique approach to the most critical aspect of success on any program-compliance. This approach encompasses behavior modification, self-management, motivational techniques, and yes, even discipline-promoting consistency and accountability. Implementing sound psychological reinforcement insures that newly developed good habits last a life time. While staying focused and motivated on a lifestyle program requires commitment and determination, that never stops participants from having a lot of fun. Most of Jini’s clients have been working with her for over ten years. Current and former clients include many entertainment industry professionals who can be found both in front of and behind the camera.

Specifically designed for the self-motivated exerciser, The Jinifit Virtual Training Program features "supervised autonomy" as a way to promote self-management and discipline. This 90 day transformational program combines exercise program design and implementation, nutritional counseling, (utilizing an online software program that serves as a diet and exercise journal), and daily/weekly coaching calls that focus on staying motivated in addition to program design updates and eating plan adjustments-all for the cost of what the average personal trainer charges for just one month.

Jini is active in many professional organizations including NSCA (The National Strength and Conditioning Association), NANP (National Association of Nutrition Professionals), ASEP (American Society of Exercise Physiologists), and WRS (Worthwhile Referral Sources), Southern Califo ia’s largest networking organization. She continually engages in the pursuit of the very latest science-driven advances in the industry in an effort to elevate the standard of care for clients in a performance, general fitness, and rehabilitative setting. She works closely with Medical Doctors, Chiropractors, Nutritionists, and other health care professionals and spends much of her free time reading professional jou als, attending conferences, seminars, and workshops which help keep her at the forefront of this rapidly changing industry. She has appeared as an exercise consultant on NBC’s Access Hollywood and has been featured in publications such as The Los Angeles Daily News, and Shape Magazine. She also writes articles for many fitness and nutrition newsletters and ezines.

Fruits and vegetables will make you thin. But how? If you’re hoping to accelerate your rate at which you burn off that fat, if you simply want to have better health and overall physical function on a daily basis, fiber is going to be your best friend. Far too many people get caught up in calorie counting and making sure that they have the “perfect” numerical intake that they completely overlook the role that dietary fiber plays. Since fiber can definitely help to push your results in the right direction, it’s something that you should be thinking about, no...taking.

“Don’t judge,” she said a little too loudly, sitting down and frantically flagging our server for coffee. I had seen my friend at her very worst during a particularly nasty flu where I brought over chicken soup, and she didn’t look half as bad as she looked this morning. She didn’t need to give me the details. I knew her plans last night. Second date, bar hopping, texting me at 3 a.m.: All signs pointed to hangover.

My friend Dr. Jonny Bowden's got this all figured out. Find out below in this guest post, just how manipulated us consumers are by big (food) business. You won't believe this! Suppose for the moment that you are a manufacturer of little yellow snack cakes with a creamy filling inside.

As a researcher and science nerd, I always stay on top of the latest research. Early this year, a study showed DHEA combined with burst training could boost testosterone levels in middle-aged men. I use that kind of information to help my clients become stronger, leaner, and more powerful. Recently another trainer at my gym showed me a fascinating book entitled Biomarkers: 10 Determinants of Aging You Can Control. “Why have I not heard about this book?” I asked. Oh, it was published in 1991. That’s why.

Is it wrong to talk about how well an author’s intense blue eyes are set off by his dark brown hair when you’re about review his book? Could that be considered a conflict of interest somehow? Well, be that as it may, Dr. John Berardi is much more than a pretty face (besides; he’s married) (and there are a couple of other co-authors here as well but really, who cares?)

Last year 19-year-old Alex Morris went into cardiac arrest and was immediately pronounced dead from a cardiac arrhythmia when he arrived at the hospital. His mom is now suing Monster Energy Drink, which she believes was a culprit in Morris’s death. She’s not alone. Anais Fou ier’s family also sued Monster after she drank two 24-ounce cans of this popular energy drink and died. Monster claims Fou ier died of natural causes. However, a CBS report claims energy drink-related deaths have doubled over the past four years, which doesn’t look good for manufacturers.

I’ve long proposed a combination of burst training and weight resistance provides the most efficient, effective exercise for most people. Earlier this year, I had a client who challenged that belief. “You talk often about biochemical individuality and avoiding one-size-fits-all programs,” she said during her first session, “and yet you tell everyone to do the same exercise. Sure, you modify it for every individual, but it’s pretty much the same routine. What if I need something… different?”

I have a friend who lost over 60 pounds on Atkins Induction. A year later, she’s kept off the weight and looks fantastic. Over that time she also became a carbophobe, evidenced recently at dinner when she asked our server to substitute her sweet potato for another green vegetable. “Why the hate for sweet potatoes?” I asked her as our server walked away. “They’re loaded with fiber and beta-carotene. Add a little butter and… delicious.”

“Detoxing is such B.S.” he smugly said across the table, and I suddenly realized why I didn’t like this guy my friend was dating. Among his know-it-all assertions throughout dinner, this one took the cake. My friend was discussing a recent cleanse she’d read about in Cosmo. Her date didn’t approve, nor did he have anything clever to add to the conversation, hence his quick dismissal. I wanted to ask him why he felt this way, but I already knew his answer.

I have them at my gym and you do too. They’re content doing the same machines, maybe thumbing through a few magazines on the treadmill, or just half-heartedly slogging though a workout. They look fine. Yet you’ve seen them at the gym for years and they don’t make progress. You’ve also got those folks who push themselves harder. They challenge themselves with new workouts. They have demanding trainers who push their level of excellence. They get out of their comfort zone. Slowly, steadily, they become more muscular and confident.
