Keith Fiala

I have for as long as I could remember always wanted to be a professional trumpet player. As a very young child, I was marked as a "talented" little boy because I seemed to pick up on the instrument very quickly. Once in high school, other things started to register on my radar (girls and cars). So I was then labeled as a "good player" but not "naturally gifted or talented" any longer.

After my first year of college, I had gotten very discouraged with playing and actually quit for 3 years before picking it back up... telling myself that I would never be good enough to play like my heroes (because that's the message I was being given by the people around me).

After re-dedicating myself to my craft, I worked very hard to attain my goals in playing... most things came very slowly and felt almost insurmountable.

This is when I learned how to become a better student or learner. Through my experiences with teaching, playing professionally, and working with people of all ages and all levels, I have found a common thread for learning.
