Probiotics are bacteria and yeast, but they are the ones that are good and necessary for your health! If you automatically think of ‘bacteria’ as a bad thing, think again. Your body is full of bacteria, both good and bad. Probiotics are ‘good’ bacteria, and they are a necessary part of keeping your gut healthy.

Triglycerides are a type of fat found in your blood. When you eat more calories than you burn, your body converts all the surplus calories into triglycerides. Having triglycerides in your blood stream is totally normal. They are basically stored energy. In between meals, when you don't have food as an energy source, your hormones release the triglycerides for energy. However, you can have too much of a good thing. High triglyceride levels are linked to heart disease and stroke.

Chicken Noodle soup is said to be good for colds and the soul, and I wouldn’t argue that. In fact, chicken broth inhibits neutrophil migration which mitigates the side effects of colds, flus and upper respiratory infections.

If you are watching sugar for diabetes, good health, or weight, this will help you understand ‘sugar’ is not just ‘sugar’ Carbohydrates metabolize into sugar in your body. However, there are healthy ways to get the carbohydrates your body needs. The Glycemic Index is a rating of carbohydrate foods from 0 to 100. Each food is rated according to how it affects the blood sugar level. The higher the rating of the food on the scale, the more difficult time your body has metabolizing it.

Protein plays an incredibly important role in almost every biological process of the body – and amino acids are the building blocks. Twenty percent of the human body is made up of protein. The major portion of muscles, tissue and cells are made up of amino acids; they carry out most important body functions and give cells their structure. They are also instrumental in the storage and transport of nutrients.

Remember when Casserole’s were all the rage?? Make them before hand, throw in all your leftovers or any combination of things ‘about’ to go bad in the ‘icebox’ and then throw it in the oven for a quick meal? There were so many different items in them that they were considered a full meal. Most of it, not so good for you, just fillers. Like pasta, rice, flour as thickener, etc. Today, whether it’s at a fine dining establishment, a chain restaurant or at home, salads have become the new casserole.

There is a lot in the media, especially social media, about ‘adrenal fatigue’ these days. Adrenal Fatigue is not a recognized illness, not an actual diagnosis, but there is such a thing as Adrenal Insufficiency, and there are adrenal deficiencies. Likewise, there are also hyperadrenal illnesses.r

Many people eat a Kosher diet because of spiritual reasons and religious beliefs, and many people follow this age-old diet because of its health benefits. Regardless of your reason to do so, or consider to do so, let’s take a look at what Kosher food is. “Kosher” is an English term applied to describe food that has been prepared in accordance to the dietary guidelines of Jewish law. Regardless of popular belief, Kosher food is not blessed by a rabbi; it is certified as Kosher due to the ingredients and how it is prepared. So what are these ingredients and preparation methods?

Favorite Quotes & Thoughts from Lisa Baker

Being alive is a gift from the Creator, but to enjoy that life and to help others, we need to take care of this body. It is more than just 'not being sick,' but being able to function, think, and create at our optimum. Good nutrition leads to good health, which ultimately leads to a good connection between your body and spirit. To me, that is 100% homeostasis. That is our goal.

It takes years of mis-nutrition to get our bodies into the condition where we can physically be aware of the consequences. Patience is a virtue when starting a jou ey to regained health; it can take weeks and months to start seeing the benefits - there is a lot to repair by that point! So being committed is a huge part of your success factor. If you would spend money and time fixing a car, for example, you can do it for your body, too! After all, we don't want to trade it in or take it to the salvage yard!

Weight loss is not something I advertise or focus on; it is, indeed, a part of my Wellness Plans, as eating healthy and appropriately for your conditions and health situation will lead to weight loss. So far, all of my clients can attest to that.

One of my favorite quotes has always been "You can only be what you think you are," (Pete Sinfield/Greg Lake) but throughout life I have found that you can think you are much more, and actually achieve it!

Any requests for consultations, creating a Wellness Plan, or other appointments can be accomplished through my website at http://www.lisabakerholisticnutritionist.com

How to get started

I like to work best through creating a "Wellness Plan" for you. This begins with an extensive intake and evaluation questionnaire which I will then evaluate and we will use as our baseline. The Wellness Plan includes intake, creation of the Wellness Plan and 2 follow-up appointments. Further follow-up and maintenance appointments are welcomed and encouraged. We can work over email, Skype, or a combination of both. Local appointments are available, please inquire.

I also offer other services such as simple consultations, and even an -e-mail question a month" option.

When sending your intake papers, I like to have a photo of you. This helps me evaluate while working on your plan whether that "severe acne" is only one pimple, or a really severe issue. Plus, I get to connect with you at any time. Even if we meet via Skype, this helps me.

Lastly, I am always available to consider writing articles, or answering questions directed at groups. Particularly regarding Adrenal Insufficiency and deficiencies (in regards to holistic nutrition).
