Our practice specializes in teaching parents. We concentrate on methods of interacting in ways that enhance the child's or adolescent's ability to make positive and effective choices. We explore positive discipline approaches that assist in maintaining healthy relationships in the family while parents stay in charge of their children. Parenting challenges often fluctuate between feeling helpless and somewhat ineffective, to heavy-handed and authoritarian. Being able to be an effective parent is a skill which needs to be learned and supported.

University Counseling is a private practice located in Irvine, Califo ia where independent therapists provide counseling for parents in a comfortable and non-threatening environment. We have significant experience in helping parents deal with many behaviorial and emotional problems with which their children are struggling.

Lorraine Al-Jamie is a licensed Marriage Family Therapist specializing in assisting parents raise effective children and adolescents. She has spent the last thirty years helping young people work through their many and varied challenges. In addition to her private practice, she worked for 19 years as a therapist treating children and adolescents at an Out-Patient Center affiliated with Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. As well as working with children, she is experienced in assisting parents in acquiring skills that enhance their ability to raise high-functioning and happy children and conducts both private and group parenting classes.
