As a Joseph Campbell Associate, she shares the vision of a common underlying story shared by all cultures—The Hero’s Jou ey.

It’s there in today’s movies, TV and music, as well as in ancient myths and folklore, fairy tales and parables. But more than that, they’re all metaphors for our own path through life.

I had put off reading Twilight initially. Maybe it was out of loyalty to Anne Rice’s vampires. Maybe because it looked like a teenage vampire story and I thought I couldn’t relate to the kids today. Honestly, it was largely because I’m in the midst of writing my next book—still a spiritual adventure set in Sri Lanka, but a gothic and supe atural one--and I didn’t want to be influenced too much. But then I gave in. My mind needed data. I’m so glad that I did! For one thing, it made me feel young!

Reiki is an ancient Japanese healing technique that uses the application and direction of life force energy to promote healing and general well-being. The word itself is a combination of two Japanese words: Rei meaning “Universe or Higher Power” and Ki, which means “life force energy”. Joined together they mean “universal life force energy”. My Reiki appointment was a chance to have a gentle, caring person guide me through my energetic anatomy to understand the ways in which various energies had manifestated physically.

I was watching The Secret (again) a few weeks ago and a thought came to me that we can use the Law of Attraction for the good of the environment. Law of Attraction teacher Lisa Nichols, who is featured in The Secret, says "In our society, we've become content with fighting against cancer, fighting against poverty, fighting against drugs, fighting against terrorism, fighting against violence.

Let’s face it, not everyone is going to be able to become a mother and experience the act of creation. Not only are some of us men, there are plenty of women who don’t create in that way. But that doesn’t mean that these many worthy souls are left out of the process of creation. Much like a child is created from a woman’s physical resources, our creative acts can be like our children, which is why many artists say they can’t choose a favorite from among their works.

According to my calendar, September 13th is the first day of both Rosh Hashanah and Ramadan. I find it fascinating for some reason when holidays from two different religions fall at the same time, as if there were some great coordinator in the sky spacing them out evenly across the calendar. But really, I shouldn’t be surprised that Judaism’s New Year, Rosh Hashanah, falls on the same day as Islam’s first day of Ramadan, their month of fasting, since both religions sprout from the same seed.
